Chemistry, B.Eng.
Do you enjoy working in a laboratory and are you interested in chemical experiments? Are questions about environmental protection, recycling and utilization of waste materials and the use of renewable raw materials important future topics for you? Or are you more interested in combating diseases and developing new drugs and biotechnological processes?
As a graduate of our Bachelor's degree program in Chemistry (formerly Applied Chemistry), you will work on groundbreaking questions and find solutions to the problems of our time. You will set the course for a career in industry or prepare yourself perfectly for entry into the academic world. During your studies, you will work in small groups and learn to solve problems in an interdisciplinary manner.

Will I get in
The programme has an admission restriction: the average grade of your certificate, converted to the German scale, decides. The cut-off changes every year — last year's value shows the order of magnitude, not a promise.
How the selection works and how strong the competition is — we go through it against your certificate when we select programmes for you.
Programme selection →About the programme
All life is chemistry! Only through the achievements of modern chemistry are we able to produce highly effective medicines, create new materials from renewable raw materials and develop solutions for environmental issues. The well-known saying "All life is chemistry" could not describe the situation better.

With a degree in Chemistry, you are not only ready for challenges in the chemical industry, but also well equipped for a successful career in other scientific disciplines such as biotechnology, process engineering or jobs in the environmental sector.
FUTURE-ORIENTED TRAINING WITH PRACTICAL REFERENCE
The Bachelor's degree program in Chemistry offers a solid basic education in all areas and disciplines of chemistry. Inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry and organic chemistry are part of the program, as are physical chemistry and biochemistry. The theoretical subjects are optimally complemented by practical training in the laboratory. We place great value on interdisciplinary training - this is the only way to recognize and understand the connections between different phenomena.
We have supplemented chemical subjects with applied computer science, statistics and process engineering. This means that our graduates are perfectly prepared for the modern job market.
GREEN CHEMISTRY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Environmental protection is a particular concern for us. The Chemistry degree program therefore includes lectures on the topics of green chemistry, renewable raw materials and recycling. Environmental issues are also brought to the forefront and discussed as often as possible.
PERSONAL AND INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT
Personal support in class and direct contact between teachers and students guarantee optimal preparation for the challenges of everyday working life. With us, you will get to know lecturers from a wide range of companies and from several universities. This way, you can not only make valuable contacts for later, you also learn to look at problems from different perspectives.
STUDY WITH INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
The course is offered entirely in English. This means you are well prepared for a career in an increasingly networked working world.
Experience abroad is also important for professional and personal development. A large proportion of our students complete internships and exchange semesters abroad. Our students are actively supported in finding internships and organizing stays abroad and benefit from our international network.
TIP
By the way: At IMC Krems, you also have the opportunity to use our Founders Lab in addition to your studies. There, students are supported in implementing their start-up ideas and are accompanied in possible company foundings. Start-up service at its best!
What you study
In semesters 1–4 - The basics
At the beginning of the course there is an introduction to the basic subjects of chemistry and related disciplines. You will receive a sound education in general, analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry as well as biochemistry. In addition, you will deal with mathematics, computer science, statistics, physics and chemical process engineering.
The full curriculum and the programme's parameters are part of programme selection: we compare them with your profile.
Pick programmesCareer
The English-language Bachelor's degree in Chemistry opens numerous doors. After you graduate, you will have excellent job opportunities outside of Austria due to the international nature of the training.

As a graduate, you will gain a foothold in the chemical industry. After your studies, you can either decide to start your career directly or to study further in the field of chemistry or related technical natural sciences.
Possible fields of work after your studies:
- Pharmaceutical industry
- Food industry
- Environmental authorities
- Polymer chemistry
- Basic chemistry
- Chemical recycling companies
- Processing of renewable raw materials
- Basic research (after postgraduate studies)
Cost of study
Non-EU nationals have to pay different tuition fees, as these places are not funded by the federal or state governments. As part of the application, we will be happy to check on the basis of the uploaded documents whether you fall into one of the groups of people described and whether you are therefore treated the same as EU nationals with regard to the amount of the tuition fee.
Tuition fees for third countries: EUR 9,500/semester
Requirements and application
| Previous education | A school certificate that gives access to university in Germany — directly or after a Studienkolleg. |
|---|---|
| Language | English B2 — confirmed by a certificate when you apply |
| Application | Directly to the university, winter semester until 15.04 |
The procedure and the set of documents depend on your certificate. We check the university's requirements against your documents and give you a list: what to submit, how to certify and translate it, where and when to apply.
Check the requirementsHow to get into this programme
- 1Check your certificate and its recognitionDirect admission, a year at a university at home, or Studienkolleg first — this decides the whole plan.
- 2Documents and translationsCertified translations of the certificate and transcript, an APS if required. 3–4 weeks.
- 3Application directly to the university until 15.04Send the documents well before the deadline — an incomplete application cannot be completed after it.
- 4Admission, visa, movingPlan 2–3 months for the visa and the blocked account in parallel.
How to apply
You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.
Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:
- ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
- ×a wrong set of documents
- ×the application submitted the wrong way
- ×errors or gaps in the application form
- ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late
An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.
StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.
