Computer Science – Digital Media and Games – Specialization SPIELE, B.Sc.

Informatik - Digitale Medien und Spiele - Vertiefungsrichtung SPIELE

Computer and video game development has become a very strong industry. That is why we offer a specialization in games in the Digital Media and Games course.

Game technology is particularly interesting because it represents a cross-section of all aspects of computer science - from numerics and networks to software architecture. A solid basic knowledge of practical and technical computer science as well as mathematics is a prerequisite for understanding how modern games work.

Game programming is a demanding job. The high rate of change requires a strong willingness to familiarize oneself with new methods and technologies independently. Consumer knowledge of games plays a subordinate role in the qualification of today's game developer.

  • Game Programming : Programming is about creating the technical backbone of a game. How to make characters run, jump, drive, crash, etc.
  • Game Art : This area deals with the creative elaboration, e.g. the creation of characters or backgrounds.
  • Game Design : This is about determining the content, i.e. defining the rules of the game.
  • Game Production : Production is - similar to film - a business project management discipline

As a beginner, you apply in the industry as a programmer or artist. The job of designer or producer usually requires many years of professional and industry experience. You have to decide which discipline suits your interests and skills. In the course in digital media and games with a specialization in games, you will be trained in Game Programming . The other three areas are only briefly touched upon in order to be able to communicate with representatives of the other areas later.

StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.

If your level is not enough yet

The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
