History, B.A.
The subject History consists of a variety of subjects, which reflect the whole methodological and content diversity of historical science. A distinction is made between epochs, factual disciplines and regional disciplines, which are defined accordingly: over the period they are dealing with, the specific area of investigation or the region being explored. Despite their diversity and variety, all historical subjects have a fundamental methodical approach in common: they try to explore the past and thereby better understand the present. The central basis of historical science are the sources of history, that is, every kind of representational, written, medial, and in rare cases also oral tradition. To evaluate and interpret these with historical methods is the task of the historian; Learning these methods is an integral part of the history course. The study is predominantly exemplary. One of the main goals of the study is the ability to methodically, systematically and theoretically guided work beyond all teaching contents.

Study Structure / Modules
In the first phase of your BA major history you must study the subject throughout its epochal breadth (Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Recent History). At an advanced stage of your undergraduate major in history, you can then place an epochal, factual, or regional focus (such as in the Ancient, Medieval, or Modern and Modern History, or in Bavarian, Jewish or Eastern and Southeastern European History, or in the Historical and Historical Sciences Media studies and the didactics of history).
The full curriculum and the programme's parameters are part of programme selection: we compare them with your profile.
Pick programmesCareer
The program does not train for occupational skills in a specific occupational position, but allows the use in many different fields and occupational fields, the historically trained graduates due to their capacity for abstraction and transfer and the knowledge of scientific methods and the ability to methodical, systematic, theoretical ask for guided works. This opens up new opportunities for historians everywhere in the labor market, where traditional mediation, acquisition of knowledge and further education are concerned. Occupational fields that are eligible for this are u.a. Journalism, public relations, publishing, but also associations, foundations, archives, libraries and museums. The experiences with the integration of graduates of the Historical Seminar into the labor market are so far excellent. To what extent this can be transferred to the bachelor without restrictions must be left open at the moment.

Check the requirementsHow to get into this programme
- 1Check your certificate and its recognitionDirect admission, a year at a university at home, or Studienkolleg first — this decides the whole plan.
- 2Documents and translationsCertified translations of the certificate and transcript, an APS if required. 3–4 weeks.
- 3Application directly to the university until 15.01Send the documents well before the deadline — an incomplete application cannot be completed after it.
- 4Admission, visa, movingPlan 2–3 months for the visa and the blocked account in parallel.
How to apply
You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.
Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:
- ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
- ×a wrong set of documents
- ×the application submitted the wrong way
- ×errors or gaps in the application form
- ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late
An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.
StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.
If your level is not enough yet
The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
