What you study

In the first semesters of your studies, you will learn fundamental experiments and theories and deepen your mathematical training. Modern physics then becomes more of a focus. This includes lectures on atomic and molecular physics, soft matter physics, solid-state physics, quantum mechanics, and statistical physics. The compulsory training is supplemented by courses that can be chosen either from a current research area of physics or from a non-physics specialization, e.g., in chemistry, computer science, or mathematics. These can be supplemented by a German course. All of these courses aim to impart basic and application-relevant knowledge and to lay the foundations for professional activities, development opportunities, and the ability to pursue independent further education.

Career

The B.Sc. IPSP program provides you with the fundamental knowledge, skills, and scientific methods for use in industry and research in physics or related fields. Upon graduation, you will achieve a level of knowledge and practical experience that will enable you to pursue further scientific self-education. Traditional fields of activity for physicists include:

  • Microelectronics
  • Scientific and medical device engineering
  • Precision mechanics
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Optics
  • Industrial chemical process engineering
  • Communications technology

By acquiring analytical research skills and problem-solving strategies during their studies, physicists are often sought after in fields unrelated to physics, such as management consulting. Successful completion of the bachelor's program enables you to begin a master's program.

How to get into this programme

  1. 1
Check your certificate and its recognition
Direct admission, a year at a university at home, or Studienkolleg first — this decides the whole plan.
  2. 2
German up to A1 and a certificate
DSH or TestDaF has to be passed before you apply.
  3. 3
    Documents and translations
Certified translations of the certificate and transcript, an APS if required. 3–4 weeks.
  4. 4
    Application via uni-assist until 01.09
uni-assist checks documents for 4–6 weeks — send them well before the deadline.
  5. 5
    Admission, visa, moving
Plan 2–3 months for the visa and the blocked account in parallel.

How to apply

You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.

Apply yourself

Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:

  • ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
  • ×a wrong set of documents
  • ×the application submitted the wrong way
  • ×errors or gaps in the application form
  • ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late

An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.

StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.

If your level is not enough yet

The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
