We live in a knowledge society: Knowledge and the communication of knowledge are fundamental to modern societies. Digitalization is changing how knowledge is generated, how it is processed, and how it is disseminated. The relevance of knowledge communication for our everyday lives and for decisions in politics, society, business, and education is evident. The experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and the rise of totalitarian governments illustrate the crucial role knowledge communication plays in addressing current challenges. The social and economic importance of globally operating, digital companies also vividly reflects the power of knowledge (in the form of data).

The program therefore not only paves the way for a career in research-oriented professions but also qualifies students for positions in public relations at universities, in business, museums, cultural institutions and government agencies, as well as in cultural organizations and media companies. All of these areas require experts (e.g., social media experts, data analysts, knowledge brokers, communications consultants) who are willing and able to shape the exchange of knowledge between academia, civil society, politics, and business.
Because the "Knowledge and Communication" program is taught exclusively in English, students from different cultural backgrounds can jointly build an international profile. Through collaborative learning and working, students acquire not only professional skills but also valuable social skills, for example, in the areas of intercultural collaboration and communication. These skills are of great importance for companies and organizations operating internationally.
