Media Studies (two-subject Bachelor), B.A.
The media studies sub-course aims to provide students with basic knowledge of the subject areas, theories, methods, analytical instruments and design criteria of the subject. The combination of theoretical models with historical perspectives and practical projects forms a multi-perspective, scientific basis for reflection in order to assess the media in their technical, social, institutional, cultural and aesthetic dimensions and to classify them in larger contexts.

Will I get in
The programme has an admission restriction: the average grade of your certificate, converted to the German scale, decides. The cut-off changes every year — last year's value shows the order of magnitude, not a promise.
How the selection works and how strong the competition is — we go through it against your certificate when we select programmes for you.
Programme selection →What you study
The subject of media studies is part of the two-subject bachelor's degree in the Faculty of Cultural Studies. In media studies, we are concerned with thoroughly investigating, assessing and classifying media in their technical, social, institutional, cultural and aesthetic dimensions and classifying them into larger contexts. For this, media scholars need knowledge of various media topics, theories, methods, analytical instruments and design criteria. The combination of theoretical models with historical perspectives and practical projects forms a multi-perspective, scientific basis for reflection.
The full curriculum and the programme's parameters are part of programme selection: we compare them with your profile.
Pick programmesCareer
As part of humanities and cultural studies courses, theories and methods are learned, with the help of which you can develop your own thoughts and create new connections. In addition, you learn to argue convincingly, research and convey your own findings - both in oral presentations and in documents. And that's exactly what is needed later on the job market, as well as organizational talent, self-discipline and time management.

The job market in the humanities and cultural studies is as diverse as studying: There are opportunities in museums, associations and authorities, in publishing houses, advertising agencies and the media, but also in PR, marketing and human resources departments. Of course, all of this is also possible internationally. Much depends on your profile, your subjects, inclinations and practical experience.
With the subject of media studies, for example, the following professional fields open up (depending on the subject combination):
- Media organization
- Research, production preparation, planning and support
- Conceptual and editorial work within the media (e.g. media groups, press, publishers, radio, film and television, AV production, software production, multimedia and internet providers)

How to apply
You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.
Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:
- ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
- ×a wrong set of documents
- ×the application submitted the wrong way
- ×errors or gaps in the application form
- ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late
An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.
StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.
If your level is not enough yet
The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
