Where it gives access

All universities in Germany, for programmes of the T-Kurs profile (engineering, IT, natural sciences). The FSP is held by the state, so universities treat it the same as a state college's.

The FSP of the T-Kurs is accepted for technical and natural-science programmes. It does not give access to medicine, law or economics — other tracks lead there.

Before you, as an international applicant, can attend a preparatory college, you must take an entrance examination to demonstrate that you have a good chance of successfully participating in the courses offered there.

The entrance examination for the winter semester takes place in August, and for the summer semester in January. You will receive precise information about the date, time, and location with your invitation to the exam. The next date is listed under Preparatory Courses / Dates.

To prepare for the language portion of the entrance exam, you should attend German courses at least up to level B2, with a total of approximately 700 hours of instruction. The language exam includes the C-test, listening comprehension, and text production.

The language exam is supplemented by a test of basic knowledge in mathematics.

The German as a Foreign Language course teaches vocabulary, grammatical structures, and the knowledge and strategies necessary for understanding and producing texts with technical and scientific content. The course offerings are supplemented by project-based instruction in small groups on study-relevant work techniques (writing presentations, giving lectures, preparing minutes, etc.).

The mathematics, physics, and chemistry coursework deepens and expands the knowledge students have acquired in their home schooling, while also introducing new content relevant to future studies in the natural sciences and engineering. Particular emphasis is placed on teaching subject-specific ways of thinking and working, as well as on the correct use of specialized terminology and phrases.

The regular course offerings are supplemented by tutorials, comprehensive academic advising, field trips, and – in collaboration with university institutions – a wide range of information on the chosen subject.
