Where it gives access

All universities in Germany, for programmes of the T-Kurs profile (engineering, IT, natural sciences). The FSP is held by the state, so universities treat it the same as a state college's.

The FSP of the T-Kurs is accepted for technical and natural-science programmes. It does not give access to medicine, law or economics — other tracks lead there.

Before you can study at the Studienkolleg, you must pass an entrance exam.

The entrance exam takes place twice a year at the Studienkolleg in Zittau, once at the end of January or beginning of February and once at the end of August, usually on a Tuesday.

The test always refers only to the following semester, meaning the January test is valid for the following summer semester, and the August test is valid for the following winter semester.

In this test, you must demonstrate that you already have sufficient knowledge of German and mathematics to successfully participate in the Studienkolleg courses.

Whether you receive a place at the Studienkolleg depends on your performance in the entrance exam. After the test, the applicants are ranked for each course based on their results. You will be placed in a course. That's why the entrance test is sometimes referred to as a placement test.

You can usually find out the results of the entrance test the same week you took the test on the Studienkolleg homepage under "Entrance Test Results."

However, if you pass the entrance test, you are not entitled to admission to the Studienkolleg. A passed entrance test at another Studienkolleg in Germany cannot be recognized either.

You can only retake the entrance test once - after one semester at the earliest.

Condition: The test is written.

Duration: The German part lasts 90 minutes, the mathematics part 30 minutes.
