Where it gives access

All universities in Germany, for programmes of the T-Kurs profile (engineering, IT, natural sciences). The FSP is held by the state, so universities treat it the same as a state college's.

The FSP of the T-Kurs is accepted for technical and natural-science programmes. It does not give access to medicine, law or economics — other tracks lead there.

As a rule, students attend the preparatory college for two semesters. After the successful completion of the lower and upper semester, the assessment test (FSP) takes place.

Under certain conditions, it is also possible to take the FSP exam without attending the preparatory college. Please discuss with the head of the college whether this is possible and sensible in your case.

The assessment test takes place twice in the academic year - in spring and autumn. The exact time of the examination will be announced by the admitting universities in Lower Saxony and can be found in the schedule of the preparatory colleges.

Written exams

The duration of the written exam is 4 hours in German and 3 hours in the other subjects. Only non-programmable pocket calculators without a computer algebra system (CAS) that do not contain remote data transmission (WLAN, Bluetooth, etc.) are permitted for exams and the assessment test in mathematics.

Oral exams

The oral exam covers the subjects of the written exam and the subjects not selected in the written exam in the M, T and G courses as well as GGP (history, geography, politics) and English in the W course .

The exam time is 25 minutes, the preparation time is 20 minutes.

You can attend the T course if you want to study mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technical subjects.

Examples of disciplines:
Architecture, construction, mining and metallurgy, chemistry, electrical engineering, geology, computer science, land conservation, food technology, mechanical engineering, mathematics, mineralogy, physics, surveying, business mathematics and others

After you have applied to a university in Lower Saxony and passed the entrance test, you will begin your specialization courses.

The training at the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg usually lasts one year (2 semesters). A semester can only be repeated once. Colleagues with very good performance in the 1st semester can be admitted early to the 2nd semester or to an accelerated course. This saves you a semester. At the end of the college training, the aptitude test (Feststellungsprüfung) takes place.

Please take your time when deciding on your degree program. It is not always possible to change the desired course and/or the desired university after admission.

After your application, the university will then register you for the admissions process of the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg. First you have to send your German certificate to us. In a second step, those with the best German certificates receive an invitation from us to take the entrance test, which takes place in Hanover. You can only take part in the admission test on site if you have received such an invitation from us. The admission test is a prerequisite for taking part in the specialization courses.

The invitation to the second part is based on the proven language level in the German certificate. We would like to point out that due to the large number of applicants who can present C 1 and B 2 certificates, those currently interested with a B1 certificate unfortunately have no chance of being invited to the second part of the admissions process.
