Digital Technology and Management

East Bavarian Technical University of Amberg-Weiden

Undergraduate Winter Semester Summer Semester

A genuinely interdisciplinary bachelor's program that bridges engineering and business management — covering IoT, sensors, production technology, and digital product development alongside finance, marketing, and entrepreneurial project work. The curriculum is delivered entirely in English and culminates in a mandatory internship semester, preparing graduates for roles at the intersection of technical implementation and business strategy.
Digital Technology and Management at OTH Amberg-Weiden is a seven-semester, fully English-taught bachelor's program designed for students who want to operate at the crossroads of technology and business. Rather than choosing between an engineering or a business degree, students here develop competencies in both domains simultaneously — a structure that reflects how modern digital industries actually operate. The curriculum is built around four pillars: foundational technical and data sciences, digital technology, management and business processes, and a set of integrative modules that tie the two worlds together. In the first semesters, students acquire mathematical and computational literacy — working through algorithms, data structures, object-oriented programming, databases, and statistics. These tools are then applied directly to technology subjects: IoT systems, sensor technologies for smart environments, communication technology, production engineering, and the full lifecycle of digital innovation. The business pillar covers accounting and finance, marketing and sales, business process management, and a dedicated business simulation that allows students to test decisions in a controlled environment. Integrative modules — including project management with agile methods, industrial engineering, logistics, and ethics in business and technology — ensure that technical and managerial learning does not remain in separate silos. A distinctive feature of the program is its entrepreneurial strand: two dedicated project modules guide students from developing a digital solution concept through to producing a full business plan for a digital product. These projects are reinforced by a research project and a module in evidence-based methods, introducing structured approaches to decision-making under uncertainty. Language and communication skills are treated as a professional competency, not an afterthought. Modules in English for Academic Purposes, Technical English, and Intercultural Communication are embedded throughout the program. Students can further customise their profile through elective modules — including additional language courses and participation in international Summer or Winter Schools. The program concludes with a mandatory practical semester (internship) and the bachelor's thesis, connecting academic learning directly to professional practice before graduation.
