About the university

Our central task

Our central task is the excellent education of our students. The special quality of the education at the HfMDK is characterized by the intensive personal artistic and scientific supervision of the students, the combination of theory and practice as well as the most diverse projects and cooperations. One of the focal points of the program is contemporary art.

As Hessen’s only university for the performative arts and their mediation, we are located in the heart of Frankfurt and the culturally vibrant Rhine-Main region: a lively art venue in the midst of society, where the future of the arts is explored and shaped – shaped by the people who study, teach and work here with a love of experimentation, passion and commitment.

Our mission

In addition, the HfMDK has a clear mission: We want to inspire enthusiasm for the arts – and thus ensure the preservation and expansion of a vibrant cultural life.

As a “networked” university, we cooperate with all important cultural institutions in the region and beyond, and are committed to long-term projects to ensure that all people can participate in the arts.

Our future

We look forward to the future with excitement: The planned new building on the Frankfurt cultural campus offers fascinating perspectives for the HfMDK – but also for the people in the city and the region.
