About the university
Renowned scientists teach and research at the TU Ilmenau. Her achievements are groundbreaking and in many areas it is impossible to imagine life without them. Among other things, the developments of the MP3 format, a powder that protects against electromagnetic radiation, the most accurate scale in the world – the supercomparator, the world’s largest scientific device for researching the fine structure of turbulence – the so-called “Ilmenauer Fass”, an ultra broadband Technology, which u. a. can be used to find buried people or to search for mines, or an automatic shopping assistant for hardware stores.
We are proud to look at numerous close partnerships with scientific institutions and commercial companies, both nationally and internationally. And last but not least, it is the close cooperation with the city of Ilmenau and the Ilmkreis with its other regions that shape the framework conditions for academic life at the Technical University of what defines the Technical University Ilmenau.
