About the faculty
The Digital Engineering Faculty was founded jointly by the University of Potsdam and the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI). It is the first privately funded faculty of a public university in Germany, and the Hasso Plattner Foundation finances it in full. The stated goal is to build a university centre of excellence in digital engineering. The HPI is the only university institute in Germany that offers the Bachelor's degree IT-Systems Engineering, an engineering-style take on computer science. Two Master's programmes, Computer Science and Digital Health, build on it.
Digital Engineering Programmes at the University of Potsdam
Bachelor's level
The Bachelor's programme IT-Systems Engineering is the faculty's entry point. The faculty describes it as a particularly practice-oriented, engineering-focused take on computer science. The HPI is the only university institute in Germany to offer this degree, so you will not find the same programme at other German universities. Applicants who want hands-on software and systems work rather than a purely theoretical computer science degree should look at it first. The faculty's pages do not state the language of instruction, so confirm it for your intake before applying. Module descriptions are in the faculty's module catalogue.

Master's level
Two Master's programmes build on the Bachelor's: Computer Science and Digital Health. According to the faculty, students can set their own research priorities within them. Digital Health sits at the intersection of IT and healthcare, which makes it a distinctive option compared with a standard computer science Master's. Check the individual programme pages for the language of instruction and the admission requirements for each degree.

A degree you cannot get elsewhere in Germany. The HPI is the only university institute in the country offering the Bachelor's in IT-Systems Engineering.
A clear study path. You can go from the engineering-oriented Bachelor's into the Master's in Computer Science or Digital Health, and the faculty also has a doctoral (Promotion) track.
Links to industry. The faculty's event calendar includes "Wissenschaft trifft Wirtschaft" company visits, which suggests a focus on applied work.
Research Areas in Digital Engineering
The faculty's pages describe research in terms of its subject areas (Fachgebiete) and a doctoral programme, without naming individual institutes or funded projects. The areas that can be grounded in the sources are:

- Digital Engineering as the overarching field, in the faculty's own words a planned university centre of excellence
- Computer Science, taught at Master's level and linked to the HPI
- Digital Health, where IT meets healthcare
For current research groups and doctoral opportunities, check the faculty's research and Promotion pages.
Digital Engineering for International Students
The faculty has a dedicated information section for applicants coming from abroad. The HPI International Office supports incoming students, and the HPI offers Erasmus exchanges for both incoming and outgoing students. Language courses for a stay abroad are available through the University of Potsdam's language centre.

The faculty's pages do not state the language of instruction or the language requirements, so check them for each programme before applying. Our team can help you compare entry requirements across the Bachelor's and Master's options.
Where to Study Digital Engineering: Potsdam
The faculty is part of the University of Potsdam in Potsdam, in the state of Brandenburg next to Berlin. It is run together with the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), which handles student advising and the International Office for the faculty. The faculty's pages do not describe specific campus facilities or labs.
Career Paths for Digital Engineering Graduates
The faculty's pages do not list specific employers or alumni outcomes. What they do show is an applied orientation: an engineering-style Bachelor's in IT-Systems Engineering, a Master's in Digital Health that links IT to healthcare, and company-visit events under the heading "Wissenschaft trifft Wirtschaft". Graduates can go on to the Master's programmes or to the faculty's doctoral track. For current employer links and graduate destinations, ask the faculty's study advisory service.
