to occupy. Employment is initially planned for a period of 2 years as part of a third-party funded project to regulate microglial phenotype expression in an experimental model of perinatal inflammation-sensitized hypoxic-ischemic brain injury.

Our workgroup focuses on damaging events (eg, inflammation, hypoxia-ischemia) in newborns that can permanently adversely affect the developmental processes of the immature brain. Using a variety of experimental models, we investigate underlying pathomechanisms at the cellular and molecular level, with a particular focus on neuron-glia interaction and neuro-inflammatory processes. In addition, the evaluation of potentially cell-protective and neuro-regenerative therapeutic strategies is another major goal of our research.

The project is concerned with the regulation and function of microglial cells in neonatal inflammation-sensitized hypoxic-ischemic brain injury. The focus is on the regulation of different microglial phenotypes and the establishment of neuroprotective therapy options. The in vivo analyzes will be complemented by in vitro experiments with purified cell cultures. Another focus is the establishment of clinically applicable biomarkers, which can be established as part of a clinical trial.

Tasks:

  • Autonomous planning and execution of animal studies (infection-sensitized hypoxia-ischemia, hypothermia, behavioral tests) as well as cell biological, proteinbiochemical and molecular-biological investigations in tissues (including immunohistochemistry, Western Blot, PCR)
  • Primary cell cultures from tissues
  • Immunological Investigations (FACS)
  • Imaging / Microscopy (confocal)
  • Independent Data Analysis (RNA Sequencing, Proteogenome Analysis)
  • Writing scientific publications on an internationally recognized scientific level, presenting research results at conferences

Requirements:

  • Doctorate after graduation (master or diploma) in a life sciences or biomedical subject
  • Previous knowledge and experience in self-employment in the field of neuroscience is desirable
  • Successfully publishing in internationally recognized journals
  • Good command of English
  • Open-mindedness, reliability and high communication readiness
  • Enjoying interdisciplinary work with doctoral students and students
