Admission after a vocational or college background comes with clear benefits — and specific rules. Options differ mainly by how long you study at a home university first.
After college at home there are two routes to a German university: after about 1 year at an accredited home university, a 1-year Studienkolleg (German-taught, related track); after about 2 years, direct entry to a related Bachelor.

- Bachelor programmes are taught in German and/or English, depending on the programme; the field must be related.
- Programme title and curriculum matter — they signal employability to future employers.
