The following three focal points are offered alternatively to each other, one of which is to be selected at the beginning of the study: bioinformatics, engineering computer science and environmental computer science. Courses in these areas are competently covered by other institutes or faculties. By doing so, students learn to understand the terminology of the chosen field of study and can thus successfully design and implement their application systems.

    The Bachelor is a professional qualification that enables graduates to systematically solve problems in the application fields of biotechnology, engineering and environmental sciences through the use of computer science methods. To achieve this goal, the study is divided into three phases, which may overlap in time:

    • In phase 1 (about 1st to 3rd semester) basics in computer science, mathematics and the chosen application subject are taught. This deliberately includes modules that convey basic knowledge in the application subjects without direct IT relevance.
    • In phase 2 (about 3rd to 5th semester), interdisciplinary modules will be offered, in which application and computer science will be integrated. These modules require the basic knowledge that is taught in phase 1.
    • In Phase 3 (5th and 6th semester) interdisciplinary work will be further deepened and put to practical use. Here the project internship and the bachelor thesis play a key role.

    Interdisciplinary work is thus taught primarily in phases 2 and 3. In order to provide students with motivation and orientation in phase 1, a module for the introduction to applied computer science and its application subjects is offered in addition to the basic modules in the first semester, which gives an overview of the interdependencies and interdependencies between computer science and its application subjects

    Another important objective of the bachelor's program is to realize continuous education in programming and software development throughout the course of study. This training is indispensable for a professional qualification; Every graduate should be able to systematically and systematically create software systems. The integrated training in programming and software development is implemented through lectures and accompanying exercises or tutorials, internships and bachelor thesis.

    In the computer science events, examples from the application subjects are presented to demonstrate the application of computer science concepts. As a result, interdisciplinary training is guaranteed throughout the entire course.
