The graduates of the Master's degree program are qualified according to their individual focus

  • to act in cultural and media-savvy occupational fields (eg in television stations and in radio, in the publishing industry, in press and public relations in associations and commercial enterprises, in market opinion, media culture and social research , editorial and journalistic)
  • to immerse yourself in cultural, media, but also cultural-political and pedagogical fields of work,
  • to undertake a scientific or artistic activity at the university,
  • to take up a doctoral program (in the form of a cooperative dissertation or at a university),
  • to enter the higher service (the master's degree is the entry requirement to the higher service).

Each semester, two projects are offered in which specific expertise and practice are linked. The semester projects each include two content-oriented seminars and one project workshop each with an artistic or academic orientation.

  • Theory: conveys a sensitivity to concepts and enables a professional reflection of our complex lifeworld from a media and cultural studies perspective.
  • Methods: teaches concrete ways of behaving and allows an empirical approach to understanding, describing and explaining our media-cultural world.
  • Cultural Education: points out concrete ways and possibilities to use participatory approaches to our media-cultural world and make them usable.
  • Management: enables the holistic participation of our media-cultural world, including economic, legal and technical skills.
The Master consists of three semesters plus a 4th semester for the preparation of the Master's thesis, incl. Colloquium. Each semester, you must attend three compulsory courses. From three elective courses per semester, two thematically suitable and up-to-date projects are offered for election. In doing so, you can always decide whether you would rather like to prove an artistic project (audio, AV, photography, theater or drawing) or a scientific practice project (eg history workshop, survey, e-learning tool, etc.) during the semester.

The artistic workshops of the department are anchored in the master's curriculum as project workshops. In addition, there is the possibility to use the technology for own projects as well as to profit from the personal know-how.
