The conceptual design in and with the space arises from understanding. The sustainability of a design as a central discipline is therefore measured by its sociological added value for society and its technical feasibility.

The eight-semester Bachelor's degree in Architecture at the FHWS is committed to this traditional standard. The broad spectrum of teaching content forms the basis for the generalist architectural profession.

In addition to conveying creative and artistic aspects, conceptual strategies and knowledge of traditional and contemporary trends in architecture and urban planning, the teaching concept focuses on solid technical training including digitization. Both the teaching profiles of the lecturers and their focus areas and practical experience reflect this broad range of disciplines.

Cooperation projects with municipalities or private sponsors in terms of applied research, architecture excursions at home and abroad as well as the Bauhütte lecture series are, in addition to teaching, further pillars of a realistic, current and future-oriented architecture discussion at our university.

An average of 60 students study each semester. Contact with fellow students and support from the lecturers is close and personal. Lectures, seminars and working in small design groups form the format for teamwork. Furthermore, large work rooms offer students a forum to work independently and cooperatively, to learn and to celebrate.

Professional tasks of the architect are:

• The creative, technical and economic planning of buildings, as new and existing ones
• The coordination and supervision of the construction process
• The advice and representation of the client in all questions of the building project
• The elaboration of urban development plans
• Participation in state and regional planning

The content of the architecture course at the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences is correspondingly broad. First and foremost, conceptual design and construction is taught. The historical, social and economic contexts as well as the topics of sustainability and digitization are important components of the curriculum. The urban space and its smallest unit, the house, are the field of tension in which the design in space and ultimately the design of our environment is learned on the basis of different scales.

The course is the basis for a practical teaching of the complex contents as well as a well-founded training of the necessary design skills. The aim is to qualify as an architect who is faced with the increasing complexity of building. With its eight-semester course, the architecture course at the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences offers a bachelor's degree, which enables direct entry into the Chamber of Architects after two years of professional activity.
