The Master’s in Architecture and Urban Planning combines multiple subjects to form a broad spectrum of artistic, technical, and scientific disciplines. The studies bring together a comprehensive education and networked thinking that make it possible to understand complex situations and analyze them to arrive at independent solutions. These studies will equip you to become planners who think independently and are conversant with all aspects of building culture.
In studying for the Master’s, you will deepen the competences you acquired in the Bachelor’s program and will build on them in a personalized specialization from the department’s subject palette. Also, be aware that with an urban planning focus for your studies, you will meet the prerequisite for inclusion on the List of Urban Planners.

The Master's examination represents a professional qualification that is the basis for admission to the German Chambers of Architects. In addition, the Master's degree (M.Sc.) entitles the holder to a doctorate and gives access to the higher administrative service (2nd state examination for building construction / urban planning). Since the M.Sc. Architecture and urban planning fully complies with international standards (EU, UIA, UNESCO) for the recognition of professions, this also results in an unlimited international career prospects.Учебный план программы обучения "Architecture and Urban Planning"
In the Master Architecture and Urban Planning you should practice the architectural design and further qualify in seminars in artistic, technical and scientific terms. The program consists of three semesters of study and the Master's thesis in the fourth semester. In total, three design and project works have to be completed, usually one per semester. At the same time, you should attend accompanying seminars as well as thematically continuing seminars. In total, seven seminars have to be completed. In the choice of topics you are completely free in drafts and seminars. Autonomous is an individual specialization to choose in which you prepare with drafts and seminars on the master's thesis.
The Master's thesis in the 4th semester is designed to create a synthesis of your acquired knowledge and skills. The topic of the Master's thesis should be chosen individually and has to be agreed with the professor of your choice and structured according to the specifications of the chosen specialization.
You have extensive freedom of choice and freedom in the master of architecture and urban planning. The only compulsory module to attend is the Architecture and Urban Planning Colloquium, with which the Faculty always presents itself in the winter semester as part of a lecture series. In this lecture series, faculty faculty members will present and reflect contemporary positions in architecture and urban planning.
In addition, there are no mandatory requirements in the Master's Architecture and Urban Planning. There are no internships or stays abroad. For an exchange semester at a foreign university, we are happy to help you through our Erasmus representative.
