Программа обучения "Art History" в Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich

Kunstgeschichte

Art history encompasses a very wide range of objects, which means that it deals with objects of art from the 6th to the 21st centuries from all countries in Europe, and more recently from non-European countries, taking into account all types of art, i.e. architecture and urban planning, Plastic and painting of all kinds as well as graphics, arts and crafts or modern media such as photography, film, internet art. At the same time, the history of art touches on many other subjects and subject areas, such as religion, politics, society, literature, philosophy and others; it allows to get to know historical societies and other cultures. As a subject, she has developed many independent methods in dealing with works of art in the course of her history, be it for formal analysis of stylistic epochs or the contentual interpretation of works of fine art (iconography / iconology). For the more recent period, discussions should above all be mentioned about whether the history of art in the field of art should be extended to a general science of the image or the visual.

The bachelor's degree program provides a practical module in which practical experience gained in connection with the course (preparatory or in the course of the course) should be introduced. The internship is documented in an internship report, which represents the proof of performance for the module part. Since the internship module is offered in the summer semester, the internship report should also be submitted in the summer semester. The study regulations recommend the internship module for the 6th semester, but since it is only a recommendation, the internship can also be completed at a different (earlier) time and the internship report submitted earlier - in the summer semester, respectively.

Учебный план программы обучения "Art History"

The bachelor's degree in art history major combines the imparting of broad basic knowledge, content specialization and elements with a practical focus:

  • In the first semesters, in the form of epoch-structured overview lectures with accompanying preparatory courses, proseminars and exercises / reading courses, a broad basic knowledge of art history as well as techniques of art history and scientific work are imparted.
  • In a subsequent in-depth phase, methodological and theory-oriented lectures and main seminars train the ability to critically examine the subject and its subjects, and practice scientific work as an example.
  • In addition, the BA course lays the foundations for the professional practice of art historical activities. Through the targeted integration of practice-related or practice-related activities (practice modules), the students gain insight into possible professional fields and practical work areas in the field of art history. At the same time, exercises by non-university lecturers provide information about fields of activity in the preservation of monuments and museums as well as in the private sector (art management, trade, journalism and publishing, etc.). Both of these are intended to make it easier for students who want to pursue the BA as the only degree to start working.

Overall, the bachelor's degree course in art history guides people to work independently and to convey work results with particular expertise in dealing with traditional and new media. The specific design of the Bachelor's degree in Munich covers all epochs of art history and also conveys knowledge of non-European, especially Islamic, art.
