Учебный план программы обучения "Art History"

As part of the bachelor's degree programs in art history, a broad range of basic knowledge from the early Middle Ages to the present day is imparted, which is ideally supplemented by selective, in-depth studies of exemplary objects. Our Bachelor courses are characterized by the fact that they offer a multifaceted and varied teaching program that offers interesting options. As part of the B.A. courses, another subject from the Faculty of Philosophy can be chosen as an accompanying subject or as a secondary subject that individualizes and complements one's own course of study.

In the first year of study, our students begin to acquire and practice basic knowledge and methods. This is followed by a systematic study of individual epochs, which ultimately leads to a deeper understanding of the specialist sciences. The art-historical (and in the elective area archaeological) subject areas are developed in various forms of teaching and learning: in the seminar discussion, with the help of lectures and seminar papers as well as by attending and reworking lectures, but also in project work. In addition to working with texts and visual media, great value is placed on object study on site in the form of excursions, exercises in front of originals or internships, which is why our B.A. Art history (core subject) and B.A. Art history (two-subject Bachelor) include a mandatory practical module. Complementary courses also provide practice-oriented key qualifications such as research and presentation techniques in order to optimally prepare students for everyday student and later professional life.

Study Design

Basically, most of the B.A. subjects that can be studied at the University of Bonn are available as accompanying subjects, provided that they provide an offer. As a supplement to the B.A. Art history (core subject), however, the following subjects are recommended: archeology, history, philosophy, classical philology, German studies, comparative literature and cultural studies, French studies, Hispanic studies, Italian studies, English studies (or Celtology).

The core subject accounts for 120 credit points, the bachelor's thesis, which is written in the core subject, 12 credits, the accompanying subject 36 credits and the optional area (language acquisition, research, presentation, rhetoric, etc.) 12 credits.

The course structure consists of five levels (A = basics, B = theory and methods, C = epochs and cultural areas, D = practice and E = case studies), whereby the compulsory electoral principle allows for each module to focus on specific subjects. In the first year of study, three modules of level A and one module of level B are taught the scientific basics; the imparting of key professional skills is integrated into these modules. In the second year of study, there are three compulsory elective modules on different epochs and cultural areas (level C), the options range from Christian archeology or medieval studies to modern art history. In this academic year, the obligatory practice module is also used, which extends into the third academic year in various courses (excursions, exercises in front of originals, internships). The third year of study includes two elective modules in level E (case studies), which provide exemplary in-depth research into scientific questions and problem-solving in order to help you master the bachelor's thesis.
