The basics of mathematics and natural sciences that are taught in the early phase of the degree program are intended to provide a well-founded basis for the subsequent engineering basics and applications. In the third year of study, students are intended to learn the required technical knowledge and practical skills that permit a successful interdisciplinary and team-oriented career in the field of automotive engineering. Curriculums specific to automotive engineering enable students to deepen their knowledge in a future-oriented field of work. The compulsory planning and development project in the 4th semester is a special element. Students develop technical and possibly also business administration contents as well as teamwork skills, project planning, time management, project documentation and project presentation.

This also applies to the region around the University of Siegen with a successful history and a promising future in the automotive industry. Typical areas of activity include: research and development, design, product development, test planning and execution, logistics, production planning and control, management, engineering services.

At least 7 weeks of subject-related internship during the degree program: Complementing and enhancing the knowledge acquired in the degree program through work in different operational areas and initial introduction to engineering practice.

The course includes mathematical, scientific and engineering basics and general engineering applications as well as the basics of vehicle construction. Here, the student also sets priorities with electives, a planning and development project and the bachelor thesis with topics from vehicle construction in accordance with the course plan in the "Annexes to the examination regulations for the bachelor's and master's degree courses in the mechanical engineering department". In addition to technical content, communication and teamwork skills as well as presentation and moderation skills are taught in the poster presentation of the planning and development project and the final lecture of the bachelor thesis.

    At the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Siegen, a wide range of research activities are carried out in the eight sub-disciplines of biology, civil engineering, chemistry, electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, mathematics and physics.

    Profile-forming research focuses in the faculty are the topics of sensor technology, including chemical sensors, materials science and resource-saving systems, including vehicle technology. In addition, there is a research focus in the field of particle and astroparticle physics.
