In this Master’s programme students acquire advanced knowledge and research practice in biodiversity, ecology, evolution, systematics, nature conservation biology, and forensic biology. Moreover, students have access to a broad spectrum of modules across faculties for further scientific specialisation and qualification as well as professional practice. The broad spectrum of education in the fields of biology mentioned above enables students to develop their individual scientific profile.

Fields of professions comprise employments like in research institutions, companies or public authorities like nature conservation or environmental agencies, in bureaus of criminal investigation, in print- or TV-media, in youth and adult education, in museums or collections of natural history, in botanical or zoological gardens, in national and international organisations for environmental care, in developmental agencies, and open academic careers in science.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution"

The Master's program qualifies for science-based professional activities in leading positions in administrations, research institutions and enterprises in the fields of nature conservation, environmental protection, agricultural and forest sciences; in museums and collections related to biology or natural history; in botanical and zoological gardens; in national and international organisations of nature conservation and environmental protection; in developmental cooperation, and in the media. It also prepares for advanced scientific qualification within the framework of Ph.D. programs.

Учебный план программы обучения "Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution"

The MSc-programme has a modular structure (120 ECTS points in four semesters), and allows students to develop their individual scientific profile. During the first year, students choose their field of major studies (30 C) and acquire additional qualifications by complementary modules (30 C), key competences (12 C), scientific project management (6 C), and biodiversity (12 C). The Master’s thesis (30 C) lasts six months, and rounds off the scientific profile. Studies and research stays abroad are supported, and can be acknowledged in the study programme.

    Today the Faculty of Biology and Psychology focuses on three major research fields: molecular biosciences, biodiversity and ecology, and neuro-biology and behaviour. The faculty is organized in three institutes for biology and one institute for psychology: The Albrecht-von-Haller Institute of Plant Sciences, the Johann-Friedrich-Blumenbach-Institute for Zoology and Anthropology, the Institute of Microbiology and Genetics and the Georg-Elias-Müller Institute of Psychology.
