Программа обучения Biomedical Chemistry

Программа обучения "Biomedical Chemistry" в Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

Biomedizinische Chemie

Complex medical processes can only be described through a deep understanding of the underlying chemical processes. Current biomedical research questions, however, require new approaches that go beyond the ‘classic’ solutions offered by ‘traditional’ programs such as Biology, Chemistry or Medicine. The master's program Biomedical Chemistry therefore connects three disciplines and aims at pooling target-oriented approaches and strategies from the different fields. A profound understanding of biological processes in human and animal organisms requires extensive knowledge of the underlying biomedical mechanisms and of the molecules involved. The master's program Biomedical Chemistry has a clear emphasis in the area of Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry and Medical / Pharmaceutical Chemistry as well as elective courses in the field of Biomedicine. The program will equip students with a solid knowledge in the subjects of Chemistry, Biology and Biomedicine and gives them the opportunity for individual specialization. On the basis of this profound education, students of Biomedical Chemistry are able to mediate between different disciplines and to interpret individual results and contents. Graduates of the master’s program Biomedical Chemistry can therefore play key roles in interdisciplinary research teams.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Biomedical Chemistry"

There are employment opportunities mainly in business (research, analytics, process development, production, application technology, marketing, patents, documentation), at universities and research institutions (e.g. Max Planck Institutes) and in public administration. The main field of employment opportunities is in the area of drug research and development.

Международный обмен по программе обучения "Biomedical Chemistry"

The two research modules and the specialization unit of a module can also be carried out as part of an organized stay abroad. Four months abroad correspond to two research modules. In the case of a six-month stay abroad, two research modules and the specialization unit corresponding to the subject of the semester abroad are recognized as equivalent. The study abroad can be financed through a grant.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Biomedical Chemistry"

Laboratory internships are part of compulsory, compulsory elective and research modules. Students learn complex working techniques for dealing with scientific questions and apply the knowledge acquired during their studies in practice. Internships serve the purpose of individual specialization and personal profile development in preparation for later independent and responsible research work.

    • Basic unit in pharmaceutical / medicinal chemistry
    • Two further basic units from the range in biomedicine and / or chemistry and analysis
    • Another, freely selectable specialization unit
    • A freely selectable research module (internship in a working group)
  • 3. Semester
    • A freely selectable research module (internship in a working group)
    • Examination modules organic chemistry, biochemistry and an elective
  • 4. Semester
    • Master thesis

A good knowledge of English is generally indispensable in the natural sciences, as most of the specialist literature is only available in English.

The range of courses, consisting of lectures, exercises and internships, is designed for an average of 30 hours per week during the lecture period of the semester. The internship share is up to 50%. The preparation and follow-up work for the courses takes more time.
