Today, economic decisions are influenced by many different factors, which is why the course content of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Hamburg is varied and closely linked to other subjects such as mathematics, psychology and law. The course teaches the theoretical basics of business administration (accounting, balance sheets, investment, financing, corporate management, production & logistics, private business law, micro- and macroeconomics etc.) and methods of business administration (mathematics, statistics etc.) to enable students to independently analyze and solve economic issues in professional life. The course offers an insight into corporate decisions on a strategic, organizational and analytical level.

The bachelor's degree in business administration qualifies you for a further academic career (master's degree) as well as for activities in the areas of business, administration and organization.

The aim is that students acquire the ability to apply business knowledge independently and the ability to act responsibly in business and administration. In the third year of study, students can focus on one of eight focal areas (including finance and insurance, marketing or corporate management).

The bachelor's degree is divided into three phases:

  • Basic phase (1st and 2nd semester): imparting basic terms, technical and methodical foundations of business administration. Expansion with economic and legal content.
  • Development phase (3rd and 4th semester): Expansion of the acquired technical and methodological basic knowledge, especially with regard to operational functions and structures.
  • In-depth phase (5th and 6 semesters): In addition to the free elective area, students can choose one of eight focus areas and thus acquire a specialist specialization:

    There is a separate selection process for applicants from non-EU countries.

    International university entrance qualifications can only be compared with one another to a limited extent due to the different “grading cultures” of the individual countries. For this reason, at the University of Hamburg, in addition to the grade for university entrance qualification (HZB grade) converted into the German system, other criteria are also taken into account in the selection. Fulfilling these criteria is not mandatory. However, by fulfilling these criteria, you can significantly improve your chances of a place in a course with restricted admission.

    Every application is evaluated according to a bonus point system. For the HZB grade, you will receive a maximum of 30 points (with an HZB grade of 1.0). If you would also like to improve your bonus point account, you can receive additional bonus points if you meet the criteria below at the time of application.

    10 bonus points if you prove one of the following criteria:

    • Assessment test at a state-approved preparatory college in Germany or
    • Successful participation in the preparatory semester at the University of Hamburg or
    • Proof of particularly good knowledge of the German language

    Up to 10 bonus points:

    • TestAS certificate (core test and subject-specific module)

    4 bonus points each:

    • Scholarship from a German public institution to support talented students
    • Other social criteria
