The bachelor’s degree in Business Administration is offered at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences and is intended to enable students to understand and help shape subject-specific and interdisciplinary issues and processes. In accordance with the mission statement of the University of Bamberg - "Focus on people" - an important common objective of the Bamberg business administration is that the students should learn to develop alternative courses of action not only from the point of view of short-term profit maximization, but also with regard to possible side and consequential effects to assess and take responsibility for decisions accordingly. At the same time, students should develop the ability and willingness to reflect and question their own actions and to see themselves as creative actors in business and society. These aspects in particular should contribute to personal development and enable students to engage in civic engagement.

The Bamberg business administration prepares you optimally for work in companies, but also in foundations, associations, authorities and other organizations: Economic thinking is in great demand in many professional fields.

In addition to founding a company and self-employment, careers in banks, insurance companies, (online) trade, (advertising) agencies, market research companies and in many areas of industry are also possible. Associations, NGOs or international organizations such as the EU and the UNO can also be considered for you as a Bamberg graduate.

The specialization, which is geared towards the labor market, enables interesting fields of activity in various functional areas of the company - such as controlling, finance, sales and marketing, human resources, but of course also in organization, logistics, accounting, tax consulting, supply chain management and innovation management.

In the mandatory internship module group, students complete an internship lasting a total of two months, which remains ungraded. Evidence of practical work experience in business, economic administration or in national, international or supranational organizations that is suitable for the training objective must be provided.

The bachelor's degree in business administration includes compulsory and elective modules, with the modules being grouped into module groups. General business administration, law, economics and methods form the foundation of your studies. There is a wide range of other specialization options: You can choose between the various areas of special business administration, which will allow you to specialize within your studies. The course can be studied with or without specializing in Business Education II. In addition to a two-month mandatory internship, you have the opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters and acquire additional skills in dealing with intercultural challenges. Finally, in the bachelor thesis, you independently deal with a selected business research topic. The course structure can be found in detail in the examination regulations and the module handbook.

Students who choose the Bachelor's degree in Business Administration complete modules in the following module groups:

General business administration

In the module group General Business Administration, modules totaling 60 ECTS credits must be completed. An introduction to the areas of banking and financial controlling, business taxation, financing and investment, innovation management, marketing, organization, human resources management, production management and logistics, international accounting and auditing, and corporate management and controlling is given. The modules are particularly geared towards imparting basic terms and basic questions of business administration and also showing the networking of the sub-areas.

Law, economics and methods

The module group Law, Economics and Methods includes modules with a volume of 48 or 54 ECTS points. In this group of modules, introductions to the content and methods of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory are taught. Students should be able to understand and assess important economic relationships and problems from a microeconomic and macroeconomic point of view. Furthermore, a basic introduction to the legal framework of economic activity and introductions to the basics of contract law (including contract types) and corporate law are given. Students should be able to recognize and problematize the interactions between economic activity and private and public law. Furthermore, there is an introduction to the methods of statistics and econometrics, mathematics and accounting

Special business administration

In the special business administration module group of the bachelor’s degree in business administration, modules from two of the available compulsory electives must be completed, of which 12 ECTS points are allocated to each compulsory elective. The study of the elective subjects is intended to impart in-depth knowledge and methodical skills in a special business administration. Possible subjects are:

In the foreign language module group, students deepen their foreign language skills in the context of economics, so that they can be used in a professional and scientific context in a targeted manner. For this purpose, skills are taught in one of the following foreign business languages:

Profiling

In the profile building module group, students expand their profile by adding another compulsory elective subject from special business administration or deepen their knowledge of associated departments such as law, economics and methods.

Evidence of practical work experience in business, business administration or in national, international or supranational organizations that is suitable for the training objective must be provided.
