Embedded in a profound economic education we teach you the needed marketing and communication skills as well as skills in closely related fields such as advertising psychology, market research or competition law. In a world in which products and services are becoming more and more alike, the client is more and more frequently influenced by marketing. Our students learn how to apply traditional and newer communications instruments and how to plan, coordinate and examine them in this broad-based study program. This program is unique in its structure and is renowned for its methodic and practice-oriented education.

As it has become more and more important to offer internationally recognized courses Pforzheim University introduced the degree of Bachelor of Science Business Administration and Advertising in winter semester 2006/07. Our attractive range of Master study programs gives ambitious graduates the opportunity to gain further qualifications.

Career entry

Most of our graduates start their professional career either as consultants or strategic planners in an advertising agency or as brand or product managers in the industrial sector or in the service industry.  After the successful completion of their studies, our graduates may also find attractive positions in the media or start their own agency. 

Development of the job market

For the fourth year running the Central Association for German Advertising (ZAW) is expecting a growth in the industry and a double figure increase in job opportunities.  Furthermore, the excellent reputation of our study program and good connections with the advertising and brand industry make it easier for our students to start their career successfully and get into leading positions.
According to a survey carried out by the GWA (Association of Communications Agencies), agency and human resources managers consider Pforzheim University one of the best institutions to prepare students for careers in the communications industry.

The Faculty of Economics and Law has over 70 partner universities that accept students from Pforzheim. The study abroad usually lasts five months (one semester); Stays abroad for two semesters are possible at individual universities. The following link takes you to a list of all partner universities.

A mobility window is planned for the 6th semester in all courses. This means that this semester deliberately contains many general business administration subjects, which in the vast majority of cases can be taken at most partner universities and accordingly recognized and credited in Pforzheim. The few course-specific subjects that are to be taken in the sixth semester according to the SPO can also often be taken at a partner university (but this has to be clarified with the respective course director in individual cases). In justified cases, it is also possible to swap internship and semesters abroad (e.g. due to semester times at the partner university). In this case, please contact the internship officer for your degree program.

The practical semester is provided for in the study and examination regulations for the 5th semester. A postponement is only possible in justified exceptional cases. The duration of the internship is at least 100 working days without sick days or vacation days. We recommend completing the internship for six months.

The internship semester can also be taken abroad. Internships abroad are also a valuable addition to a domestic internship. You can extend the period of study, but this is offset by the experience gained. With an internship abroad you prove that you are able to realize a project that is not easy and to find your way in a foreign environment.

The degree program consists of general studies and course specific modules. After completing the business basics, students consolidate their studies through learning about how to develop marketing and communication concepts. This also includes integrated planning, the deployment and control of traditional and new instruments of communications policy as well as other marketing instruments (product, price, distribution policy). Besides a very specialized training, students will also be introduced to subjects such as market research, competition law, production and design of advertising media and learn more about creative partner disciplines such as text design, photographic design, desktop publishing and film/radio/TV.

  • instruments of communications policy, for example classical advertising, direct advertising, sales promotion, public relations, sponsoring and event marketing
  • new media, especially online media and e-commerce
  • marketing management and political marketing instruments
  • advertising psychology
  • market research
  • competition law
  • basics in design and production of advertising media (print, radio and film)
  • advertising texts, advertising photography or desktop publishing
  • projects with clients from the industry
  • internship in renowned agencies and companies

It is essential to provide our advertising students with a strong practice-orientation to their studies. They are given a wide variety of practical opportunities. We employ managing directors from renowned advertising agencies to give lectures on practice relevant issues and current topics. As well as gaining more academic knowledge imparted through lectures, our students are encouraged to extend their knowledge through the many practice oriented tasks. These are carried out through real projects for business companies, case studies, excursions to advertising companies and agencies as well as the invitation of renowned practitioners as consultants for an interchange of ideas. Furthermore internships are an integral part of the course and give our students a direct insight into their future careers.

Work experience can also be gained by taking part in our student advertising agency: werbeliebe e.V. (www.werbeliebe.de).

Our students also have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at one of our many partner universities in order to broaden their horizons.

We provide our students with technical facilities like computer, photo and video studios as well as many PC/MAC computers and a media test laboratory. These facilities are used to gain more knowledge and also to work on practical applications.

    Emerging from the Fachhochschule für Wirtschaft (FHW), the Pforzheim Business School has been offering young people a profound economic education with a high level of academic sophistication for more than 50 years. With over 3500 students, 675 new students per year and 97 professors, we are the largest faculty at the Pforzheim University.     First, a weighted overall HZB grade is formed, which is determined as follows:

    • Average grade of the university entrance qualification = 50%
    • Individual grades for university entrance qualification in mathematics = 30%
    • Individual grades for university entrance qualification in English = 20%

    A weighted grade in the selection process is then determined as follows:

    • the weighted overall HZB grade = 70%
    • the result of the study ability test = 30%.
      However, the result of the study ability test is only taken into account if the test result is better than the average grade of the university entrance qualification. If the result of the test procedure is worse than the average grade of the university entrance qualification, the average grade of the university entrance qualification counts instead. The same applies if the result of the test procedure is not available.
      The weighted grade can therefore never be worsened by the study ability test.

    It should be noted that all of the selection criteria specified for the respective degree program apply to all applicants. The overall result of the selection criteria is the grade that is taken into account in the admission procedure.
