Business mathematicians work e.g. B. in banks and insurance companies, investment companies, consulting firms (management consultancies), in the computer branch and in industry, at universities and research institutes. In addition to research, exemplary fields of activity are: system analysis, organization, planning, investment and financing, risk analysis and management, controlling. The breadth of these fields of application in connection with dynamic developments in some areas (e.g. in the financial sector) lead to favorable career prospects.

The bachelor's degree in business mathematics is intended on the one hand to prepare for the master's degree in business mathematics, on the other hand, a first professional qualification is acquired upon completion of the bachelor's degree.

Successful completion of the course proves that the graduates have acquired sufficient specialist knowledge in mathematics, business administration and economics for a transition to professional practice as a business mathematician.

Graduates are able to recognize, abstract and analyze fundamental mathematical and economic relationships. They are also able to select suitable approaches to solve the problems that arise from them and to implement them with computer help and finally to translate and interpret the solution found back into the language of the economic environment.

The graduates understand how to convey the stages of this process appropriately using suitable information and presentation techniques.

Communicative and social skills as well as the ability to critically question problems and setting goals are important here. Raising awareness for social engagement is promoted as a cross-cutting topic in numerous courses.

The study of business mathematics takes into account interdisciplinary aspects and current challenges for graduates in business in a special way: Mathematical relationships and problems play an important role in many areas of economics. The areas of operations research and optimization, actuarial mathematics and financial stochastics as well as econometrics represent natural points of contact between mathematics and economics.
