Программа обучения Civil Engineering

Программа обучения "Civil Engineering" в Technische Universität Darmstadt

Bauingenieurwesen

The Master of Science Civil Engineering course enables the combination of a broad technical education with a simultaneous specialization in a sub-area of civil engineering. With a large number of module combinations and options along the various subject areas, the course can be tailored to the student's personal interests. A mentoring system serves as a supervisory support when creating the individual study plans. The broad subject-specific orientation as a central aspect of the course remains guaranteed with the subject-specific elective area despite these individual specialization options. As an alternative to the individual structuring of the course, a scientific focus can also take place.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Civil Engineering"

The construction, planning, construction organization and finally the construction itself belong to the main field of activity of civil engineers. In doing so, they not only take on the classic building planning, but also also turn to infrastructural measures such as the construction and maintenance of traffic routes or drinking water supply systems. Working with CAD applications for computer-aided design plays an important role here.

The energetic renovation of buildings accounts for an increasingly important part of their work. They investigate the question of how buildings and systems can be designed to be as energy efficient as possible, and weigh up the use of renewable energies.

Civil engineers check the feasibility of architectural building projects , calculate their financing and include safety standards. If necessary, they then take over the Facility Management .

Employers for civil engineering graduates include construction companies, engineering offices, real estate companies, IT companies, transport companies, specialist authorities and associations, the construction machinery industry and the building materials industry.

It is therefore important, in addition to studying, to gather practical experience in relevant institutions at an early stage, to prove one's general suitability for practice and to establish contacts. The prospect of a good position is increased by the willingness to move professionally, also abroad. A good command of the English language is particularly recommended for an international orientation.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Civil Engineering"

Graduates of the research-oriented Master of Science Civil Engineering course at the Technical University of Darmstadt expand the specialist and interdisciplinary skills they have acquired from the previous Bachelor’s course. These competencies are characteristic of the demands of the degree program and an essential prerequisite for a subsequent doctorate. The degree in civil engineering allows graduates to work in business, administration and science. After completing the course, graduates will have the following general skills:

  • the ability, on the basis of the technical and interdisciplinary knowledge acquired from the previous bachelor’s course, which was both deepened and expanded in the master’s course, to independently process tasks on all contents of the course using scientific methods;
  • the ability to recognize technical problems and tasks in their complexity and to develop and analyze possible solutions;
  • the ability to independently familiarize oneself with new areas and methods in the chosen subject area and its neighboring areas;
  • the ability to act creatively, e.g. B. to develop new knowledge, methods and problem solutions;
  • the ability to assess and take into account the specialist and social consequences of their actions, taking into account the technical, social, economic and ecological, regional and global effects;
  • the ability and willingness for independent professional further education;
  • the ability to weigh up different solutions, to explain them objectively and understandably, to make and justify decisions.

The graduates are also able to:

  • to know, understand and apply the relationships between the materials used in construction, building physics and the movement of water;
  • To conceive, design, constructively develop and build engineering structures, including their foundations, taking into account functionality, safety in use and breakage as well as economic efficiency, aesthetics and environmental protection; this includes the analysis of the structures;
  • To assess and design spatial measures based on the social, cultural, economic, ecological, technical and legal conditions;
  • To plan, design, constructively train, build, operate and maintain infrastructure taking into account technical, economic and environmental aspects; this includes traffic planning, management, supply and disposal of water as well as the handling of waste;
  • to prepare and organize the construction and operation of infrastructure and engineering structures, taking into account societal, social, economic, technical and construction management aspects.

Международный обмен по программе обучения "Civil Engineering"

During the studies, stays abroad for study semesters or to work on the master’s thesis are welcomed by the department.

Учебный план программы обучения "Civil Engineering"

The Master of Science Civil Engineering course is designed for two years or four semesters. A total of 120 ECTS credit points are required for this. The following applies as a guide for estimating the scope: 1.5 CP corresponds to one hour per week in the semester (SWS). Most modules are designed for 4 SWS or 6 CP. This means that an average of 20 SWS can be heard or 30 CP to be acquired per semester.

In the four-semester course, you will deepen your skills in the field of civil engineering from a scientific point of view. The ability to recognize and solve technical problems and tasks in their complexity determines their studies as well as the development of novel problem solutions.

The ability to be ready for interdisciplinary and international cooperation beyond the technical, administrative and political boundaries is just as omnipresent as the ability to weigh up different solutions, to explain them objectively and comprehensibly, to make decisions meet and justify.
