In the consecutive master’s degree in civil engineering, students receive in-depth technical and scientific knowledge and methods for the conception and calculation of constructions as well as scientific specialization in selected areas. Possible specializations are structural engineering, numerical mechanics, resource-efficient construction and construction operations. The graduates thus have an outstanding professional qualification for structural planning and construction. In addition, they have the option of further academic qualifications in teaching and research (doctorate).

In the consecutive master’s course B2 Civil Engineering, in-depth technical-scientific knowledge and methods for the conception and calculation of constructions as well as scientific specialization in selected areas are imparted, which lead to a further scientific qualification in teaching and research (doctorate) and an outstanding professional qualification for the Carry out structural planning and construction. The in-depth practice of the dimensioning and constructive development of supporting structures, their material-specific analysis as well as computer-aided modeling within the interdisciplinary Dortmund construction model enables the students to apply the acquired knowledge independently and in a reflective manner and to independently work methodically, which they demonstrate in the thesis.

    The Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering encompasses the two disciplines of Architecture and Urban Design as well as Civil Engineering. One hallmark of this faculty is the close interconnection of its two subjects which is evident in the interdisciplinary training approach of the “Dort­mun­der Modell Bauwesen” where architects and civil engineers are trained together. This model is unique in Germany and embodies an educational concept that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork while also providing thorough professional training in the respective discipline. In this context, the degree program also imparts interdisciplinary foundations that encourage a holistic view of construction projects. All programs include practical components in the form of specific collaborative projects.
