The training is based on the job description of a computer scientist who is involved in the new and further development of software and hardware systems in the field of industry or the service industry. In doing so, great value is attached to the imparting of comprehensive practical knowledge as well as theoretically substantiated concepts and methods in order to enable a successful activity in practice and at the same time to lay the foundations for a scientifically oriented Master's degree program.

The consistently high demand for IT graduates guarantees excellent chances for the graduates on the job market.

In accordance with the breadth of the subject of Science Informatics and the key role played by the application of software and hardware in all areas of society, the opportunities for graduates are very broad. Some examples of application fields are only mentioned here:

  • Hardware Development: Application specific design of processors, controllers, and other hardware components generally using specialized software

Учебный план программы обучения "Computer science"

The program is divided into a compulsory portion of 100 credits, which focuses on the first four semesters, a choice of 70 credits, which must be taken especially in the last three semesters and the bachelor thesis (10 credits). It is possible to integrate a traineeship of 10 credits into the elective area.

The program starts with a solid basic education of mathematical, practical, theoretical and technical basics. He also teaches in the first four semesters the theoretical and practical foundations of modern software development so that graduates enjoy practical education on a solid theoretical foundation. Furthermore, a certain breadth in computer science is imparted by a selection of core subjects in various computer science disciplines, whereby one direction can be deepened.

As supplementary subjects we recommend: mathematics, linguistics, biology, physics, philosophy and economics. You can also choose modules from Medical Informatics. Key qualification modules are available across faculties.

The final bachelor thesis should either include pre-vocational industrial topics or arouse interest in science through a more scientific topic.

The professional employability of the students is based on solid, theoretically sound foundations, the integrated insight into different computer science areas and the exemplary deepening of an area. Thus, an incorporation into specific practical requirements beyond these foundations is always possible for the graduates. The goal of the study course is not only the communication of relevant contents and their implementation, but above all the ability of the graduates to work independently into deeper or new areas of computer science, since continuous education is essential for long-term success.

    The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science comprises the Institute of Computer Science and the Institute of Mathematics. The Institute of Computer Science developed out of the Computer Science department founded in 1989, and was completely rebuilt when the university was restructured at the start of the 1990s. The Mathematics Institute has a tradition of mathematical research stretching back over 125 years, and developed from the Mathematics Seminar founded by Felix Klein in 1881.
