Our world is becoming more and more digital: cookbooks, words and address books - to name just a few examples - are being replaced by websites. Hardly any advertising film can do without elaborate special effects, and computer games are also becoming more sophisticated technically. As a result, more and more people with different motives are z. B. at ATMs, in museums, in the car or on a smartphone, tablet, etc. faced with digital information.

All of this information must be presented to the target group and saved and transmitted as effectively and efficiently as possible. This requires very well-founded knowledge of methodology from computer science when programming and designing. In the Media Informatics course, you can develop the necessary theoretical foundations and methodological knowledge. You learn the basic technologies of media informatics, image processing and compiler construction and get insights into design methods such as B. in multimedia design.

As a graduate, you will focus on automatic - often database-supported - media generation and processing, such as computer games and virtual reality, Internet programming and mobile systems, image generation and processing, and printing and paper media. Software companies often work on behalf of customers. Together with the clients, you create Service descriptions and implement the software. Graduates in the field of media informatics start-ups relatively often. You can also fill "pure" IT positions without a media connection because of the broad curriculum.

The 7-semester bachelor's program is divided into three semesters of basic study and four semesters of main study. You spend the internship semester in a company of your choice. In the 7th semester you write the bachelor thesis.

The Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Aalen University is a full-time course. The contents of the lectures are supplemented by exercises, tutorials and project work. The students gain practical experience during a practical semester in the main course. If you are interested, university cooperations enable a study semester abroad.

    The latest buzzword in society and economy is digitalisation: Everybody talks about the digitalisation of society, the digitalisation in manufacturing/industry 4.0 and digital business models. At this point, a smart phone interface is a stronger selling point for a car than a turbo charger or a motor boasting four-valve technology.

    This digitalisation of everything is mainly based on two technical fields:

    • More and more every-day products – from high-quality to low-cost are equipped with mini- and microcomputers - also known as embedded systems.
    • These embedded systems execute programs which generateprocess and  transfer data. Data that is then received and further processed by other computers.

    The Faculty Electrical Engineering and Computer Science offers studies in both embedded systems and data processing. And a lot more! If it wasn’t for the software installed on servers and terminals (from desktop computers and smart phones to smart watches), the large web servers of social networks couldn't fulfil the requests. These large systems require programming just as microcomputers in embedded systems.

    Another issue we are dedicated to at the Faculty Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is the energy transition. This transition is mainly based on electrical power, which makes electrical engineering play a crucial part in this social, economic and technical change. Power-to-gasrenewable energies and electric drives are mere a few examples of future technologies that will keep the world going around.
