Международный обмен по программе обучения "Cultural Studies"

The cultural studies course is particularly dependent on an international and thus intercultural perspective . This can already be seen in the module content (e.g. in the bachelor module "Cultural Comparison and Interculturality" with a total of 13 credit points, but also in many other modules, as well as in the master with the focus on international comparative media studies).

However, this knowledge transfer is not enough. Excellent foreign language skills and longer stays abroad, which go beyond holiday impressions, are also important for cultural studies and are also in demand among graduates on the job market.

The Institute for Cultural Studies therefore expressly encourages students to hold semesters, internships, research stays or language courses abroad in order to gain direct experience with other cultures and to acquire attractive skills for starting a career. Around 20 to 25 percent of a year go abroad.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Cultural Studies"

The promotion of student projects and initiatives is one of the central elements of the BA / MA course in cultural studies. This includes in particular the practical media projects or the cultural management, but also the organization of excursions or series of events such as the lectures organized by the student council.

In the "Media Practice" module, projects in the areas of (documentary) film, radio / podcasting, online (magazines, web design), scrollytelling and print have been implemented and presented to the public. You can also take part in practical art projects.

In addition, students must participate in a cultural management project. The aim here is to carry out projects in small groups and (usually) in cooperation with clients outside the university, from the idea to conception and organization to presentation in public. Local cultural institutions are usually the cooperation partners. In this context, the students also organize the public events of the Institute for Cultural Studies such as the annual "Day of Cultural Studies" in June, but also independently organized the Koblenz cultural festival kaleidosKOp and many more Events on your feet.

Учебный план программы обучения "Cultural Studies"

The six-semester bachelor's degree program conveys both broad and decidedly interdisciplinary cultural knowledge as well as basic skills for professional practice in areas where cultural sensitivity and competence are particularly in demand, e.g. Cultural and educational management, mass media (including cultural and science journalism) and business (including corporate communication and human resource development).

What is special about the Koblenz program is that students have the opportunity to study cultural science in its entire interdisciplinary breadth from the perspective of and with the participation of twelve disciplines (ethnology, media studies, political science, philosophy, English, German, history, sociology, evangelical and Catholic theology , Art and musicology), but study, research and implement them in projects within the framework of an integrative concept.

To this end, the basic modules (M1) Introduction, (M2) Methods and (M3) Scientific Working Techniques teach basics, basic terms and methods of cultural studies as well as general scientific working and presentation techniques. The core of the bachelor's program is formed by the four main modules (M5 & M11) Language, Media and Culture, (M6 & M12) Cultural Anthropology, (M7 & M13) Knowledge Cultures and (M8 & M14) Aesthetics, the respective focus of which is then focused on specific areas in Master’s course can be continued. Other important and current topics that are taken up during the course are (M4) culture and religion as well as (M9 and M15) culture comparison and interculturality.

The consistent orientation of the course towards (professional) practical contexts finds special expression in the project-oriented modules (M10) media practice (including film, radio and online production in the institute's own multimedia laboratory), (M16) organizational cultures and (M17) field research and is carried out by the students in the module Practice (M18) implemented independently (mostly in the form of a six-week internship in a professional field and working on a cultural management project). The bachelor's degree is completed with the bachelor's thesis (M19) (prepared in a colloquium).
