Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Dentistry"

After graduating the state examination in dentistry, you can in all likelihood be relatively relaxed about the future. The classic career of a dentist includes a doctoral thesis and assistantship after graduation. If you don't plan to practice as a dentist, getting into the dental industry and research might be right for you. In the dental industry, you can gain a foothold in customer service or product management. Dental IT is also an option with interesting future prospects. Management consultancies and scientific media also benefit from the knowledge and skills you have acquired during your studies.

Учебный план программы обучения "Dentistry"

The study of dentistry begins with the pre-clinical stage, in which technical basics from a scientific, medical and dental technical point of view are imparted. In the first semesters you will acquire both theoretical and practical scientific knowledge in chemistry, physics and biology. You can prove the basic scientific knowledge you have acquired after the second semester in the pre-physics course, a preliminary scientific examination.

You will also attend several lectures on human anatomy. You will be introduced to the medical language used in the medical terminology course. From the second semester onwards you will take phantom courses in which you will work on a phantom head with a rubber mask and familiarize yourself with an entire dental unit, consisting of a dentist's chair and treatment unit with a drill, suction device, etc. You will deal with the basic materials for dentists in the pre-clinical phase. Most of the pre-clinical semesters include internships to acquire practical skills, which are offered at the Freiburg University Medical Center. The pre-clinical stage of study ends with the preliminary dental examination, the Physikum.

After five semesters of pre-clinical training, you are finally as well prepared as possible for the clinical part of your dental studies. The clinical courses include measures for tooth preservation, dental surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthetic measures and the treatment of misaligned jaws and teeth. In addition to theoretical training and work on the phantom head, the focus is on practical training on patients. The clinical part of your studies usually lasts another five semesters. After completing the clinical study phase, you can finally take the state examination or the dental examination. Before you are approved as a statutory health insurance doctor, you will work for two years as an assistant doctor at a dentist or in a dental clinic. A further four-year overall training enables you to specialize as a specialist in orthodontics or oral surgery.

During your studies you will attend lectures and seminars as well as work in small groups and complete modern e-learning modules.
