The aim of the dental training is the scientifically and practically trained dentist who is capable of self-reliant and independent practice of dentistry, as well as further training, postgraduate studies and ongoing training. The training is intended to impart basic knowledge, skills and abilities in all subjects that are required for the dental care of the population. The training to become a dentist takes place scientifically as well as practical, population and patient-related. She should

• the basic knowledge about the body functions and the mental characteristics of humans,
• the basic knowledge about diseases and sick people,
• the general knowledge, skills and abilities required for dental work in diagnostics, therapy, health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation,
• Practical experience in dealing with patients, including an interdisciplinary approach to disease and the ability to coordinate treatment,
• the ability to take into account the health-economic context of dental practice,
• Basic knowledge of the influences of family, society and the environment on health and illness, the organization of the health system and coping with the consequences of illness,
• convey the historical development of dentistry and the ethical principles of dental behavior on the basis of the current state of research.
