The study and the structure of the dental training are regulated nationwide in the licensing regulations for dentists (ZAppO). The study is divided into a preclinical and a clinical section of 5 semesters each. During the preclinical part, the preliminary scientific examination (Vorphysikum) and the dental preliminary examination (Physikum) must be taken after at least 2 semesters at the earliest after a total of 5 semesters. The dental examination can be taken at the earliest 5 semesters after passing the preliminary dental exam. Notification of the individual examinations must be submitted to the examination board by 25 January at the latest or by 25 June.
In accordance with provisions of the ZAppO, the Faculty of Medicine offers lectures and practical exercises as courses; In the practical exercises, the necessary proofs of achievement are provided, which are required when reporting on examinations.
In Munich, each undergraduate student will receive a registration form from the APV (s.u.) after successful admission and enrollment, as well as information material on the study structure and course of the preclinical semester; the division into the practical exercises is carried out by the APV, which is also responsible for all students of higher preclinical semesters. The Faculty of Medicine of the LMU Munich has prepared a timetable in which the required courses are coordinated in time so that the student can take the dental preliminary examination after the 5th semester; Therefore, there are certain deviations in the course of study, as envisaged by the ZAppO as a program during the first 5 semesters.
