Учебный план программы обучения "Fine Arts"

Studying at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design is unique in all of Germany in terms of: Its three introductory units, in which students receive intensive support. The students of Fine Arts attend one of the three courses together with students of Art Education and Stage and Costume Design during the first two semesters. Small, manageable groups of between 15 and 20 new students are given an optimal introduction into the variety of artistic and creative practices, allowing them to learn about basic aesthetic categories. After completing the basic units, students are assigned to one of the specialist units, so they can focus on artistic disciplines such as sculpture, photography, glass design, graphics, installation, ceramics, painting, performance, video and drawing. The Academy's diverse profile in terms of professorships and workshop facilities is trend-setting. 

These major fields encompass specific artistic disciplines such as nude painting and drawing, assemblage, exhibition practice, collage, filming, spatial installation, open space arts, digital media, architectural and nature drawing, perspective and sculptural object. Art theory is also part of the academic programme, which includes reproduction theory, image analysis, colour theory, composition studies, art market, inventiveness and material science.

The study programmes are complemented by courses offered at various workshops. The Academy has an exceptionally large number of workshops, of which approx. 10 belong to Fine Arts: workshops for bronze casting, ceramics, various printmaking techniques such as lithography, etching and screen printing, a media workshop as well as workshops for glass painting and glass processing techniques, stone, wood and metal processing. The workshops are of fundamental importance for the students' artistic education and are places of interdisciplinary activity, a specific trait of the Stuttgart Academy of Art and Design. 

The study programme is completed with a thesis, which consists of a comprehensive artistic work that is to be created independently. The thesis has to demonstrate the student's artistic expertise and design skills taking into account technical means, personal interests, art-related reflection and critical thinking skills, methods of presentation and mediation of art.

Academic degree: Diploma (equivalent to Master of Fine Arts)
