The major Global Environmental and Sustainability Studies is embedded in the interdisciplinary Leuphana Bachelor with Leuphana semester, minor and complementary studies.

In the Leuphana semester you deal with science and science in a very fundamental way. This will train your critical thinking skills to be able to question the familiar; This way you learn to choose the appropriate approach for the systematic gain of knowledge and you know how to practice the responsible handling of scientific knowledge. At the same time, you will receive an introduction to Global Environmental and Sustainability Studies. This means that you deal with the fundamentals of natural and social science. The examination of the principles of scientific thinking and working methods in general and the introduction to the major in specific form the foundation for the interdisciplinary bachelor's degree in Global Environmental and Sustainability Studies.

The minor deepens the major Global Environmental and Sustainability Studies or supplements it with another subject. The choice is yours: With the spatial sciences minor, you can complete your environmental science knowledge. Other minors enable you to gain an interdisciplinary qualification.

In the complementary studies, you have the freedom to immerse yourself in areas of knowledge outside of your major-minor combination and set your own accents. By stepping out of your subject and getting involved with other aspects of your subject, you will gain an understanding of the diversity of scientific cultures as well as inter- and transdisciplinary skills.

The English-language bachelor's program Global Environmental and Sustainability Studies is international and interdisciplinary. From the first to the third semester, you will acquire the technical and methodological foundations of the natural and human sciences. These include mathematics and statistics, ecology, environmental chemistry as well as environmental communication, international sustainability control and environmental management. You will also learn the basics of inter- and transdisciplinarity.

After the basic studies, you can set your own priorities and from the fourth semester you can choose from the wide range of human and natural science elective modules. Lectures within the elective modules give you an overview of the current state of knowledge in environmental and sustainability research. In the associated seminars, you will deepen your knowledge of international aspects of sustainable development. By choosing an appropriate minor, you can further sharpen your profile.

A core part of the curriculum are sustainability research projects in which you work together with partners from practice to develop concepts for real social concerns of sustainable development, such as the renaturation of rivers or in the Lüneburg 2030 project. In the Lüneburg 2030 project, citizens, the city and the university jointly develop concrete measures for the challenges of the future.

With the completion of the Global Environmental and Sustainability Studies degree, you will earn a Bachelor of Science (BS).
