The B.A. course in Art and Cultural History is interdisciplinary and integrates the subjects Classical Archeology, Art History, Musicology, European Ethnology / Folklore and European Regional History as well as Bavarian and Swabian regional history. The diverse cultural manifestations are treated both historically and to the present. The bachelor's program "Art and Cultural History" deals with the visually, acoustically and socially tangible parts of cultural history, such as works of art, music and handicraft, paintings from paintings to utility graphics and photographs, shape the lifeworld in the designed spaces of the cities and individual monuments as well as the musical compositions and how they finally express themselves in the cultural practices and basic convictions. The traces of cultural memory that have been preserved in pictures and buildings, but also in musical works and instruments, as well as the social forms of culture which include, for example, popular culture and social movements, issues of migration or magic, become fundamentally historical Perspectives that reflect their origins and past functions and meanings.

The combination of classical archeology, art history, musicology, European ethnology / folklore and European regional history as well as Bavarian and Swabian country history spans the chronological arc from antiquity to the present. The cultures of Europe are considered in their historically changing extent and in their exchange with each other. In addition, Bavaria and Swabia, with their rich cultural and cultural history, are a focal point of state history. The basis of the interdisciplinary network is formed by the shared historical perspective and the diverse points of contact and linking in the occupational fields. All participating disciplines share the historical-critical perspective and methodology. Classical archeology, art history and musicology deal with the aesthetically demanding works of art as well as with the designed lifeworld from antiquity to the present, while European ethnology / folklore uses the means of empirical social research and the forms of cultural self-understanding in the present and the past Instruments of anthropology and anthropology. The historical foundation is reinforced by European Regional History as well as Bavarian and Swabian regional history, which deals with the regional structures and their cultural institutions.

The program "Art and Cultural History" conveys

The B.A. degree course "Art and Cultural History" is an interdisciplinary one-subject study course with compulsory, elective and elective subjects.

DUTY (PB)

The compulsory area comprises 120 credits and is divided into consecutive module groups. The scientific knowledge and skills that are based on the basic modules of the first academic year are methodologically extended in the advanced modules of the second academic year and made more practical in practice. The acquired spectrum of scientific competences will finally be passed on to the professional qualifying degree in the specialization modules of the third academic year.

The compulsory area is the compulsory elective language acquisition, in which a total of at least 20 credit points from modules of the faculty internal Latinum and / or modern foreign languages ​​are provided until the Bachelor's thesis is registered. The modern foreign languages ​​should be mastered at the level B1 GER in order to ensure the reading skills required for reading art and cultural studies literature. For art history, Italian and French are recommended. Latin courses can be taken at the Faculty of Catholic Theology, language courses in modern foreign languages ​​are offered by the Language Center (attention: compulsory or optional placement tests for courses above the beginner level, sometimes before the semester starts!). The language modules available for selection can be found in the module manual Elective Subject Area Language Acquisition, which also contains the curricula of the current semester. The total amount of modules added to the compulsory elective language acquisition may exceed 20 credits. In the compulsory elective language acquisition, grades are awarded which count toward the Bachelor's grade.

OPTIONAL AREA (WPB)

The compulsory elective area serves to widen the disciplinary spectrum and acquire practical skills. In addition, it enables a specialist focus, which can be useful in view of the desired occupation. The compulsory elective only includes courses from the field of art and cultural history as well as subject-specific internships, project work and / or archaeological excavations.

OPTION (WB)

The elective area offers freedom of choice for the training of an individual profile. For this purpose, modules from the elective range of the faculties (with the exception of art and cultural history) in the total amount of at least 30 credits can be attended. In the case of a specialization in Classical Archeology, it is recommended to use the Old History curriculum in electives. A general overview of the elective subjects and their elective range offers can be found in the total elective module manual for the elective area. The total number of modules added to the elective area may exceed 30 LP. In the elective area, grades are awarded, but these are not counted toward the Bachelor's grade. The elective area can alternatively be studied as a structured offer of a single subject or as a Studium Generale:
