In this model course of study, the students are to be prepared for their later role as doctors right from the start. This is guaranteed by a close link between the basic medical subjects and the actual medical subjects and a comprehensive scientific education. The classic division of studies into a pre-clinical and a clinical phase is no longer present, so that the students get an early insight into their later field of activity. The modules are also organized according to organs and symptoms, which eliminates the otherwise common abstract subject structure.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Human Medicine (Model Course)"

From the first semester onwards, students are prepared for their role as professionally acting doctors. Through an integrated curriculum, coordinated teaching and learning formats and a step-by-step introduction to the complexity of real medical situations, the competence development of the students is promoted in the best possible way over the entire course of the course. The students gain insights into medical practice at an early stage and get to know how to contact and deal with patients right from the start of their studies.

The course has a modular structure. The content of the modules is based on organs and symptoms, thereby eliminating the classic subject structure. In the first semester, for example, students complete the “Movement” module, which deals with bones, muscles, joints, heart, lungs, etc. The associated subjects such as anatomy, biochemistry, physiology (as basic subjects) and the corresponding clinical subjects (e.g. orthopedics, trauma surgery, cardiology) shape the teaching together. In the “Clinical Longitudinal Course”, which extends over the entire course, students can directly apply their newly acquired medical knowledge.

Scientific thinking and acting

In addition to clinical skills, the scientific training of future doctors is the focus of the Augsburg model course. In addition to carrying out their own research work, the students also learn to deal with scientific data and to understand it correctly - an important prerequisite for later being able to choose the best therapy for the patient based on the current state of knowledge in medicine.
