The bachelor's program is modular. It is divided into a core program and an in-depth program.

Core Program

The semesters one to three are methodologically oriented and teach the basics in economics and engineering. The subject exams are: Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics.

In-depth program

The semesters four to six aim to deepen and apply the knowledge. The industrial engineering course at KIT is characterized by extensive options for choosing subjects and areas, particularly in the advanced program. The great freedom of choice makes it possible to determine your own major areas of study and to tailor the course to suit your own abilities and inclinations.

In the advanced program, a total of seven subject-specific modules must be completed, which are broken down as follows: Within the framework of the compulsory program, one module must be completed in the subjects of business administration, economics, computer science, operations research and engineering, as well as a seminar module.

In the compulsory elective area, a module from the subjects business administration or engineering must be selected. Another module must be taken in one of the following areas: computer science, operations research, business administration, economics, engineering, statistics, law or sociology.

At the end of the bachelor's degree, the bachelor's thesis is to be completed.

    Research and studies at KIT Department of Economics and Management at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology are characterized by interdisciplinary networking and a strong focus on current developments. Our department is the largest training center for students of Industrial Engineering and Management in Germany. It also offers a degree program in Economics Engineering (BSc and MSc), as well as one in Information Engineering and Management (BSc and MSc, jointly with the Department of Informatics) and one in Business Mathematics (MSc, jointly with the Department of Mathematics).

    The ranking in the selection process is based on a score based on school and other achievements.

    • Evaluation of school performance (= max. 30 points)
      • The total of the points achieved in the Abitur certificate is divided by 56 (for Abitur certificates up to a maximum of 840 points) or 60 (for Abitur certificates up to a maximum of 900 points) (= max. 15 points)
      • The points achieved in the last two years of high school in the subjects German, mathematics and the best graded, continued (modern) foreign language are added, whereby the subject mathematics is rated twice. The total is divided by 16 (= max. 15 points)
    • Evaluation of other services (= max. 15 points).
      • commitment to excellence, e.g.
        • Competitive sports (top spots at state level or above)
        • Top musical performances (country or above)
        • Jugend forscht (federal competition) and similar competitions
      • commitment to social activities, e.g.
        • Head boy, youth group supervisor
      • Professional engagement, e.g.
        • Vocational training, internship (at least 3 months) in the technical or commercial area, at least 3 months abroad (only in particularly justified cases).
    • Total points: max. 45 points.
