The master's degree in industrial engineering qualifies graduates to fill the interface between technology and business, which is becoming increasingly important in practice, at a high level. Through the deepening of scientific-methodical and professional knowledge in essential disciplines of industrial engineering, the basis for a wide range of professional applications is created wherever there are interdisciplinary technical-economic integration tasks to be solved in and between the operational sub-disciplines marketing / sales via logistics, Materials management / purchasing, manufacturing / production, development, controlling, accounting to organization and IT goes. The aim of the course is to deepen the technical-economic technical, methodological and social skills that enable independent use of the methods and responsible action in the professional fields of "technical sales" or "production and logistics".

In addition to technical know-how, methodological skills are taught in the specializations of technical sales, system engineering and logistics engineering. The graduates are qualified to take on managerial positions in industrial companies and have acquired the qualification for the higher service of public institutions. In addition, the master's degree lays the foundation for successfully applying for doctoral positions at technical universities.

In the course of the three semesters of the master's degree in industrial engineering, students should be given the opportunity to work on a common research topic with their supervising professors and to develop new scientific results. For this purpose, the students complete two project work during the course of their master's degree and then one master thesis. Ideally, the results of the research projects build on one another and then culminate in the master's thesis, which also forms the successful completion of the course.

The master projects should be based on a research topic or a scientific problem. These can be proposed by the students themselves and, ideally, "brought along" themselves at the beginning of the semester. The project work can have a purely theoretical research topic as well as a cooperation with a company. The cooperation should be initiated and coordinated independently in advance.

The project topic should correspond to a content of at least two semesters and should be completed with the master thesis in the third semester if the problem is suitable.

Lectures to be attended are systems engineering, requirements engineering, operational IT systems in production companies, business analytics, technical law, advanced finance, as well as one project each in the first and second semester. The projects should be based on a research topic or a scientific problem. The specializations differ in the lectures Service Engineering, Sales Management and Product Life Cycle Management (Technical Sales), Production Processes and Simultaneous Engineering (Systems Engineering) as well as Advanced Manufacturing, Automation Systems and Virtual Systems (Logistics and Production). The theoretical and project section of the first two semesters is followed by the completion of a master's thesis with an associated colloquium.
