Описание программы обучения "Informatics"

The bachelor's program combines a methodically oriented basic program in the areas of practical, theoretical and technical computer science as well as mathematics with a wide range of supplementary subjects and an elective with flexible computer science modules. The special profile of the course includes a very solid basic mathematical education in analysis, linear algebra and practical mathematics. So that you can already set your own priorities in the bachelor’s degree, the curriculum offers you flexible sizes in the elective and supplementary subject.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Informatics"

IT systems are now part of our everyday life and work culture and influence a large number of processes. With a degree in computer science, you therefore have excellent career prospects in numerous industries and fields of work. You work, for example, in software development, management, consulting or IT administration in a wide range of areas such as medicine, biotechnology, infrastructure, media, finance and much more. a. Computer science and its applications are also universal, so that graduates are nationally and internationally sought-after specialists.

In the bachelor's degree in computer science, you will acquire the basic knowledge for a start in professional life. You are able to analyze technical problems and approach complex issues in a structured way. At KIT you will also acquire basic knowledge from a supplementary subject (e.g. physics, economics, mechanical engineering), which will further expand your professional opportunities. With a bachelor's degree, you will not only work in industry, consulting firms and the service sector, but also possibly with creative business ideas in your own company. Of course, you can also take up a master's degree to expand and deepen your specialist knowledge and scientific skills.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Informatics"

The bachelor's degree in computer science teaches the scientific basics of computer science, including extensive knowledge of mathematics. The course offers a well-founded and at the same time broad-based education that covers the various sub-areas of computer science (basic studies), whereby theoretical knowledge and practical skills are taught in a way that builds on one another. In addition, there is an elective area in which students can choose from a wide range of in-depth courses and first specialize in at least two areas (elective subject). The course is supplemented by content from a related subject area (supplementary subject) and by teaching social skills and the ability to work in a team (as key and interdisciplinary qualifications).

Graduates of the bachelor's degree in computer science have the following skills in particular:

  • Methods of computer science (core competence)
You know the theoretical basics of computer science as well as the practically relevant methods and procedures of the various computer science areas. You are able to independently handle the diverse tasks of computer science - especially tasks that arise from areas of application. You can grasp and structure complex problems and solve them using computer science methods.
  • Communication
You can present computer science topics in spoken and written form and discuss them convincingly with computer scientists and non-specialists alike.
  • Teamwork
You can work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Societal importance (civil society commitment)
They know the social relevance of computer science and can act responsibly.
  • Further training (personality development)
They can adapt to new technologies and transfer their knowledge to future developments.

Международный обмен по программе обучения "Informatics"

Study visits to European and non-European universities are desired and are usually carried out in advanced studies. The achievements made there will be credited if they correspond to the curriculum of this course.

Учебный план программы обучения "Informatics"

3 years standard period of study until graduation as Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.); a total of 180 credit points (analogous to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System - ECTS) must be acquired. The individual length of study may deviate from the standard length of study.

The subjects mathematics, practical computer science, theoretical computer science and technical computer science consist of compulsory modules that have to be completed and provide you with the necessary basics for later specialization areas. In the elective, you can freely choose modules. It is also planned that you will take a proseminar there. The supplementary subject serves to give you an initial insight into a possible (professional) application. You can choose it freely from the list below. As a rule, it consists of compulsory modules and a small elective area.

Computer science in Karlsruhe can already look back on a long and successful tradition. More than 40 years ago (1972) Germany's first faculty of computer science was founded here. A few years earlier, the first computer science study program at the former University of Karlsruhe (TH) started. Since then, the current KIT faculty has grown steadily. Thousands of students have completed computer science studies, more than one thousand young scientists have earned their doctorate here and a variety of computer science innovations have their origins in the research groups of the KIT Faculty of Computer Science. A development that also continued in 2015.

    Методика оценки заявок

The selection process is primarily based on the academic performance of the applicants. Based on these services and so-called other services, a ranking is made based on points.

    Calculation of selection points:

    1. Total points in the high school diploma divided by 56 or 60
      max. 15 points
    2. arithmetic mean (sum of all points divided by the number of courses) of the upper level courses:
      • Mathematics
      • Computer Science
      • best graded scientific and technical subject
      max. 15 points
    3. Other achievements (completed relevant vocational training, relevant professional practice, special educational background, practical activities, extracurricular achievements and qualifications)
      max. 5 points

    ((value 1) x 2 + value 2) / 3 + value 3 = total max. 20 points

Please note that a different selection procedure applies to nationals from third countries (non-EU/EEA). This selection process is based on the university entrance qualification. Academic achievements, any academic achievements that have already been completed and/or the assessment test can serve as a basis for university entrance qualifications.
