Описание программы обучения "Information and Communication Technology"

The most exciting innovations often come about where conventional disciplines overlap, which is why computer scientists and electronics engineers work together in interdisciplinary teams. Complex networked products and services need intensive communication between developers and engineers from various disciplines, companies and research institutes – for today and tomorrow’s applications.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Information and Communication Technology"

Studying ICT is a good investment in your future. Anja Karliczek, former Federal Minister for Education and Research, says: “Information and communication technologies (ICT) are the No. 1 innovation engine. More than 80 percent of innovations in Germany's strong application fields/sectorsautomotive, medical technology and logistics< /strong> are ICT driven. In the federal government's high-tech strategyICT is therefore one of the most important fields of innovation." (more at BMBF). Germany can retain its key role in the development of tomorrow's innovative ICT products if well-trained engineers grow in this field.

For this reason, the Bavarian state is also supporting the expansion of the technical faculty and the ICT degree program in order to supply the labor market with the urgently needed specialists in this field. This means that the supervision is improved and the course offerings are expanded to include new professors.

According to Achim Berg, President of the Bitkom association responsible for the ICT industry, the telecommunications market is in a state of upheaval: The industry is facing a paradigm shift: voice services are decreasing, data services are growing. (more at BITKOM). There are currently around 86,000 vacancies for engineers and computer scientists in the ICT sector.

Учебный план программы обучения "Information and Communication Technology"

For each specialization there are four compulsory modules and additional compulsory elective modules from FAU's entire range of modules. In addition to these modules, students complete the following:

  • Elective modules from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering and from the Department of Computer Science
  • Elective modules from the Faculty of Engineering or the Faculty of Natural Sciences
  • A placement within the University or a project
  • A seminar
  • A Master’s thesis with presentation
  • A research placement

120 ECTS points are required for successful completion of the master's degree program.

ICT students work on the development and research of:

  • innovative audio and video technologies (multimedia)
  • intelligent power grids (smart grids)
  • energy-efficient IT systems (Green IT)
  • fast transmission technologies
  • artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI)
  • optimized medical technology (e.g. telemedicine, digital hearing aids)

Information and communication technology engineers are constantly opening up new and diverse fields of activity. Most tasks and products in a wide variety of high-tech industries can only be solved or constructed with the help of this cross-sectional technology.

    Faculty of Engineering
    Friedrich–Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg

When the Faculty of Engineering was founded in 1966, the FAU became the first German university to combine the offer of a classic full university with that of a technical university. Since then, the Faculty of Engineering has earned an outstanding national and international reputation. This can also be seen in the number of students: since the 2013/14 winter semester, it has employed more than 10,000 students at FAU. The faculty consists of five departments: chemical and bioengineering, electrical engineering - electronics - information technology, computer science, mechanical engineering and materials science. Their headquarters are on the southern site in Erlangen with further locations in Nuremberg and Fürth.
