Information systems and management is characterised by a high degree of interdisciplinary work, i.e. the integration of business administration and computer science, and is reflected in the requirements on those working in information systems and management. People working in this field must be equally at home in both areas and must speak both languages – Computer Science and Business Administration – to be able to perform their role as an ‘interpreter’ in companies.

For this reason the Information Systems and Management programme is conducted by two specialized departments at Munich University of Applied Sciences: the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics. This is the only way in which students can truly experience the way of thinking both in business and in information technology. A comprehensive and intensively integrated part of the course brings these two worlds together and provides the best preparation for a career in information systems and management.

Since business informants have sound business management and information technology skills, they have broad application areas in companies and administration. In addition to traditional tasks as a coordinator and mediator between business administration and computer science, business informatics are also often used in purely business or information technology areas.

The Bachelor’s programme in Information Systems and Management aims at giving students the skills they need to design business and administrative information systems, to introduce them into companies and administration and to maintain them. Students gain the subject expertise that is required to do this through a balanced mix of elements from Business Administration and Computer Science. Particular emphasis is placed on putting knowledge from business administration and from computer science into practice.

The studies are intended to equip students with the ability to implement systems that are at the forefront of computer science into business organisations, according to the state of the art in science and engineering, and in such a way that these systems will be of great benefit to their users.
