Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability

In the international and interdisciplinary master's degree program in Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability (IMES), students will learn about all the fundamental principles of innovation management, entrepreneurship and sustainability. This includes all issues on operative, tactical and strategic levels relevant to founding new businesses or working in R&D. The curriculum encompasses relevant social, economic, and social science issues from theory and practice.

The master’s degree program in Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability (IMES) is divided into three topic areas reflecting the program’s name. During the elective component, which should be spent abroad, students complete electives and courses related to the subject of study.

You complete the first two semesters at TU Berlin. During the 3rd and 4th semesters, you study at one of the partner universities listed above. This is also where you will write your master’s thesis.

There is a proposed course schedule for the IMES master’s degree program. This is a recommendation for how to complete the degree program within the standard period of study of four semesters. It provides an example of which modules to take in which semesters. While this proposed course schedule is ideal on paper, it is not mandatory. It’s simply an example of how to successfully schedule and shape your studies.

    The subjects of business and management at the TU Berlin are very practice and technology-oriented with a high corporate and management focus in education and research. Business administration, economics and business law as well as technology and management determine the academic content at Faculty VII. The main research areas include innovation research, logistics, infrastructure, network economics and healthcare. Further scientific projects deal with empirical economic research and economic policy, organization and corporate management as well as strategic controlling and patent management.

    In order to apply to the IMES master’s program, you must provide proof of a first university degree in the fields of economics (this includes business administration), social sciences, engineering sciences, natural sciences or any related study program.

    The IMES master’s program is taught in English. If your native language is not English or you did not complete your first university degree in an English-language study program, you must submit proof of language skills at the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

    A ranking list is created of all applicants who fulfill the admission requirements. It weighs both the final grade of your previous degree and awards points based on certain criteria. Up to 100 points are awarded according to the following criteria:

    • Courses in entrepreneurship worth at least 6 ECTS (20 points)
    • Courses in innovation management worth at least 6 ECTS (20 points)
    • Courses in mathematics worth at least 6 ECTS (20 points)
    • Courses in statistics worth at least 6 ECTS (20 points)
    • Courses in ecological and social sustainability worth at least 6 ECTS (20 points)

    If you have taken these subjects as part of your bachelor’s degree, you will have an easier transition to this degree program, but they are not a formal requirement for admission.
