Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "International Automotive Engineering"

The qualifications that are required in the development departments of the automotive industry cannot be interpreted as purely technical CAE tasks. The range of services extends far beyond this. Among other things, it includes fields such as project management, testing operations, the development of software tools, etc. The development processes in the automotive engineering segment can be divided into five main phases:

  • Development/Construction
  • CAE Verification (simulation, computation, prototyping, development)
  • Testing and Validation
  • Homologation
  • Project Management

The courses of the International Automotive Master's degree programme focus on the integration and calibration of powertrain systems — consisting of engine and transmission — as well as the integration of chassis systems into the complete vehicle concept.

Graduates of the Master's Program undertake a veriety of application orientated tasks in module integration, development, construction and manufacturing of automobile systems. They plan, calculate and produce intelligent cooperating mechanical, electronic and technical information components and integrate them spatially and functionally with methods from mechanical, electrical, and information engineering in the aotmobiles.

Graduates will therefore find their jobs with manufacturers and suppliers of the automotive industry predominantly in vehicle integration teams aiming for low fuel consumption, low emissions, low engine and vehicle noise, as well as high comfort and performance. Due to the internationality of the Master’s degree programme, the graduates' job opportunities are not limited to Germany.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "International Automotive Engineering"

Course modules cover the vehicle's main domains in the area of powertrain (ICE, electric machines, transmission), energy storage systems (chemically, electrically, hydraulically), body (design, material, hybrid), safety, vehicle concepts and others. Graduates will be proficient in relevant technological areas like energy efficiency, exhaust and acoustic emissions, mechatronics, light weight material, structural fatigue and durability.

The programme provides in-depth knowledge of industrial design approaches and research topics with regard to real-world vehicle requirements, market developments and legislative constraints.

Учебный план программы обучения "International Automotive Engineering"

Since the winter semester 2014/2015, the Department of Aerospace Engineering has been offering a Master's programme in International Automotive Engineering, which can be studied in a 3 or 4 semester variant. This is basically a 3-semester course of study. Students have the opportunity to participate in a double degree program with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Australia. In this case the 4-semestrige study is divided into a study part Aachen (2 semesters) and a study part Melbourne (2 semesters). At the end of their studies, graduates are awarded two degrees following successful completion of all examinations.

The course of studies teaches methods and techniques in the field of powertrain and body engineering and deepens the fundamentals of engineering science. Students can freely choose their subjects from the subjects offered in the "General Automotive Engineering" and "Advanced Automotive Engineering" catalogues. Sample curricula are proposed which cover the subject areas "Vehicle powertrain application" and "Vehicle simulation" and allow an overlap-free study with a free choice of subjects.

The Master Automotive training focuses on the integration and calibration of the vehicle driveline as well as on the simulation of vehicle structural behavior, especially of the vehicle body.

The course is taught in English. Presentations by students in English are part of the exercises and internships of the degree programme. Further qualifications that are acquired in the course of studies and which are oriented towards the qualification profile of future engineers are project management, data management, the operation of test facilities and the development of software for virtual product development. The programme concludes with a project-related master thesis and a colloquium. Graduates receive the title of Master of Science (M.Sc.). The programme is accredited by the accreditation authority AQAS.

The course of studies was designed together with the industrial faculty advisory board in a practical manner. Most of the lecturers have many years of experience in the relevant industry or large-scale research. Training in a qualification network with selected partners from industry and research ensures a high degree of practical relevance of the master's degree contents to be taught as well as the integration of new industrial developments into the degree programme.

It's the 21st century, aerospace technology with its interdisciplinary and innovative research fields has had a decisive influence on our lives today and will certainly change our future lives to an even greater extent.

Among other things, aerospace technology explains and develops answers and solutions to important questions of future mobility, such as:

    • Why does an airplane fly, why doesn't a car (yet!)?
    • How do satellites change their orbits and which propulsion systems make this possible?
    • How can satellites be of help to the global climate?
    • How can aircraft, spacecraft or vehicles be made even safer and more reliable?
    • How can an engine be made quieter, more efficient and more eco-friendly?
    • Which innovative materials will be used to build future aircraft or spacecraft, and can these materials also further evolutionary developments within other areas of mobility, such as the automotive industry?

Nowadays, many achievements in aerospace technology have already been incorporated into other engineering disciplines - especially into modern automotive technology.
Some process definitions in the development of modern automobiles and their components, such as fault tree analyses (FTAs), have their origins in aerospace engineering and are indispensable components in quality and safety management.
Nowdays, it would be unthinkable to imagine modern automobiles without materials such as GFRP, CFRP and aluminium. Some core competences, goals and achievements in aerospace technology, as well as in vehicle and drive technology, therefore go hand in hand.
Accordingly, it makes sense that our faculty combines both fields of competence, because learning together also means learning from each other.

In close cooperation with strong partners from industry and commerce, the faculty develops the future of mobility - on the road, in the air, or in the vastness of space.

The degree programmes combine profound basic knowledge and expert knowledge with a strong practical orientation.
Decide for yourself which specialisation will help you steer your future in the right direction, and, in addition, individualise your studies with numerous options.

Take advantage of our international contacts and industrial cooperations, if need be, for a semester abroad at one of our numerous partner universities or for introductory work placements - worldwide.

Get off to a flying start with us - the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering looks forward to welcoming you!
