Описание программы обучения "International Economics and Development"

The "International Economy & Development" course is designed to familiarize students with the mechanisms, problems and strategies of doing business in an international environment. The focus here is on economics - especially economic and business - events. In the area of specialization in particular, students also have the opportunity to choose sociological, ethnological or even religious and cultural studies events in addition to economics and business administration.

The globalization of economic and social activities, which has its causes both in the targeted dismantling of legal trade barriers, as well as in a wave of innovations in information technology, has already led to the fact that in principle every company and every government has an impact on the world market and international political ones Must have decisions in view.

It is not only in the sales markets that local suppliers and consumers are increasingly confronted with international competition. Governments are also coming under pressure from increasing location competition. This promises considerable gains in prosperity on the one hand, but on the other hand it also entails numerous risks, the solution of which will place high demands on future entrepreneurs, managers and politicians. Against this background, it is of central importance to analyze (international) development processes. Only understanding such processes creates a foundation for rational decisions for individuals, organizations and states (governments).

Учебный план программы обучения "International Economics and Development"

Key qualifications include events such as "Interactive introduction to economic thinking" and a business game / case study seminar. Here, language and analytical skills are practiced to accompany the core events; the interactive proportions and independent work are comparatively high here.

The mathematical and empirical methods are a central prerequisite for understanding many contents of other modules as well as for many professional fields.

The four other module areas of the compulsory area cover the central content of the course. In addition to basic economics and business knowledge, the focus is on the problem areas of the international economy and development.

As part of the specialization area, students choose between the three areas of language and / or target region and / or individual focus. A total of 45 credit poits are to be earned in the specialization area.

  • In the "Language" module area, language courses in one or two foreign languages can be introduced. You can find more information on the contribution options in the current examination and study regulations.
  • In the "Target Region" module area, study achievements abroad (in foreign language) amounting to a maximum of 45 credit points can be brought in, which fit the course and do not constitute substitutes for compulsory courses or selected optional courses of the individual focus.
  • In the module area "Individual focus" events from the following focus areas can be brought in:
- Public management (ÖM), - Institutions and Governance (IG), - deepening empiricism and theory (VET), - Sociology, Ethnology, Religion, Geography (SERG) and - Business Administration (BWL).

If at least three modules are selected from one of the focus areas listed above, this specialization is shown in the certificate.

In the specialization areas, individual modules can be replaced by other subject-specific modules (such as lecture series or theory-practice dialogues / seminars) after consultation with the person responsible for the module whose module is to be replaced. Double credits are not possible.

The internship, which can also be completed abroad, also presents the students with an important decision. They have to determine whether they want to gain practical experience in a company, in (international) organizations or in the government sector. The internship is an important link between theory and practice. The experiences are then recorded in a short report by the students. If all 45 credit points of the specialization area are earned in the module area "Individual focus", the mandatory internship must be completed as an internship abroad.

The bachelor thesis also presents the students with the problem of defining the subject area in terms of their own interests, skills and later profession or later studies. In the bachelor thesis, the students are supposed to show that they have mastered the basics of scientific work in their field and can apply it independently to a specific economic topic with an international dimension.
