The international master of interior-architectural design (imiad) is a master’s degree with an international profile. In four semesters, students gain a deeper understanding of the potential and the quality of the spaces in which we spend an average of 90 percent of our lifetime living, working and leisure activities in order to be able to take responsibility for the design of the built environment with their own ideas in the future. The Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences is the place of study in the first and third semesters. You will spend the second semester at one of our partner universities. Every year, all partners meet between the second and third semester for an international workshop at one of the university locations. The teaching builds on the content and learning objectives of space-related bachelor's degree courses and deepens the design theory so that independent answers to complex design tasks can be found and developed creatively and constructively. Individual areas of knowledge can be deepened in electives.

At the beginning of the first semester, the decision is made in consultation with your fellow students as to which partner university you want to study at in the second semester. In preparation for the semester abroad, you'll improve your English right from the start in courses, presentations and in communication with students from our American partner university, the University of Cincinnati. To find out which stay abroad best promotes your personal development, it is advisable to take a look at the focus areas of the respective partner universities.

After the semester abroad, the fellow students meet again at an international workshop and get to know students and professors from the partner universities. Учебный план программы обучения "International Master of Interior-Architectural Design"

1. Semester - International Teams

The first semester begins internationally with visiting students from the University of Cincinnati.

The results of a short project at the beginning of the semester serve to assess your skills. In a subsequent workshop you can analyze your strengths and weaknesses, compare previous knowledge and mutually benefit from certain skills. During the joint excursion you will get to know each other even better.

In the first and third semester, a conceptual and a constructive draft are worked on. The three project modules are supplemented by job-related management and the electives.

The first semester is also a first "stress test". In order to enable the stay abroad to start on time in the following semester, the course of the semester is compressed and demanding. Most of the submissions should be completed before the turn of the year.

2. Semester - semester abroad

Bring your curiosity, design tools and skills, but leave the prejudices at home.

During the second semester you will live and study abroad. Travel is transformed and you'll come back a different person than when you started. Our partner universities offer a challenging study program and, depending on your choice, there is also the option of completing an internship there or expanding your personal horizon of experience on a longer trip.

2½. Semester - International Workshop

An international workshop takes place between the second and third semester.

Students from all partner universities and their lecturers meet for about two weeks at one of the partner universities for an international workshop, which, as a particularly intensive and atmospheric course, is one of the highlights of the IMIAD study program.

3. Semester - deepening and preparation

Before the independent thesis in the fourth semester, professional skills are further deepened in drafts and electives.

Can you develop coherent concepts and communicate effectively? Did you build up a creative repertoire during your studies from which you can draw unlimited inspiration? Higher complexity design projects will help you figure that out and show off your skills.

In the course of the third semester, the individually chosen topics of the Master's theses are developed.

4. Semester - Master's Thesis

The fourth semester is exclusively devoted to four months of independent preparation of your master's thesis.

The individually chosen topic of the Master's thesis will be prepared in the course of the third semester and supervised by two supervisors of your choice. The final presentation forms the conclusion of the master's degree and is given in English in front of an international jury.

1-4. Semester - relation to practice

The course focuses on projects that are based on real planning tasks and are processed in individual and group work - often for real clients. Nothing simulates reality better than reality.
