The study program conveys the technical and methodological competence that qualifies students to theological, religious and pedagogical as well as pastoral activities in mosque communities. The graduates of Islamic theology also have a variety of career opportunities in science, politics, business and public relations as well as in other areas of society. Further occupational fields open up in integration and migration work, cultural management, adult education or in an advisory capacity in the socio-pedagogical or psychological field.

For the winter semester 2016/2017 there will be a restructuring of the contents of this study program. Among other things, the standard period of study is reduced to six semesters.

The bachelor program "Islamic Theology" combines theology with general humanities, cultural and social science issues.

This includes dealing with religious source material, but also dealing with religious practice and its mediation. In addition, the program deals with the Islamic religion in the European and German context and mediates interreligious and intercultural competences.

Islamic Doctrine and Systematic Theology
Islamic Law (Legal Sources and Methodology of Jurisprudence, Legal History)
Islamic History and Contemporary Culture

Islamic Philosophy
Islamic mysticism
Islam ethics
Inter-religious Studies
Islamic languages (Arabic)

The ZITH also offers students the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary research approaches.

Das Zentrum für Islamische Theologie (ZITh) wurde als zentrale Einrichtung der Universität Tübingen im Jahr 2011 gegründet und bietet Studiengänge der islamischen Theologie und Religionslehre in steigender Zahl an. Der Lehrbetrieb hat im WS 2011/2012 mit dem Bachelorstudiengang „Islamische Theologie“ begonnen, gefolgt vom Lehramtsstudiengang „Islamische Religionslehre“ im WS 2013/2014. Gegenwärtig studieren 210 Studierende in den Studiengängen „Islamische Theologie“ (B.A.), „Islamische Religionslehre“ (B. / M. Ed.), „Islamische Theologie im europäischen Kontext“ (M.A.) und „Praktische Islamische Theologie für Seelsorge und Soziale Arbeit“ (M.A.).
